Even though Francesco Carrozzini directed the video for Beyonce’s “Jealous,” he said he did not know that the singer would be releasing a new album yesterday (December 13).

“When you work with Beyonce…there’s always kind of a secretness to everything you do, because, of course, she’s such a star,” Carrozzini says in an interview published on mtv.com. “Sometimes expectation is what really ruins things for people. That’s what’s proved by the way she released this video — how everyone is talking about it.”

Carrozzini says he shot the music video in New York City about three weeks ago and that the clip was co-directed by Beyonce and Todd Tourso. Carrozzini says that Beyonce was more hands-on than other artists for whom he’s shot videos, including A$AP Rocky for his “Phoenix” clip

“It’s her storyline,” Carrozzini says. “It’s not the traditional way I would do a video — how I did for A$AP or for other artists where you just come up with an idea and present it to the artist…She had a very precise storyline in her head and it was written and filled with references — and so a big part of the creativity is her.”

In a video released to promote her self-titled album, Beyonce said that the release is meant to help fans experience an album as opposed to a single and its “hype.”

“People experience music differently,” Beyonce says. “Now people only listen to a few seconds of a song on their iPods. They don’t really invest on a whole album. It’s all about the single and the hype. There’s so much that gets between the music and the artist and the fans. I felt like, I don’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready from me to my fans.”

HipHopDX reported the tracklist for Beyonce shortly after it was announced today. The tracklist, video previews and announcement clip can be found here.
