Childish Gambino recently discussed his appreciation for Kanye West.
“I always thought he was a genius,” Gambino said in a recent interview with Fuse News. “I love Kanye. I think he’s the best. Not even on music level because I try not to just be like, ‘He’s a musician,’ or, ‘He’s a rapper,’ because I think that holds people back. I think he’s like a prophet. He makes people want to be better, to work harder and to push all of us forward. It’s kind of sad people don’t let him do what he wants to do ’cause I think he can help us a lot.”
Gambino said that West inspired him to avoid only making albums.
“I don’t believe albums,” Gambino said. “I don’t want to do albums. No. I really don’t. I know that sounds really lame and pretentious…But I don’t want to do albums. Especially now, if you’re gonna put oput a body of work, it should be an experience. It’s easy to do that now. Like, I don’t think Kanye puts out records. He puts out whole things. Like there’s projections and there’s this show that goes with it, and there’s this booklet that goes with it. I want to make worlds and stories that people can live in for years.”

During the interview, Gambino also spoke about his recently released “3005” track.
“I feel like I write best in the morning,” Gambino said. “I wrote ‘3005’ in the morning. All the good songs where I’m like, ‘How did I even come up with that?’ were probably remnants from dreams…I feel like when you first wake up, you’re still close to who you really are.”
He said that some fans have misinterpreted the selection’s content so far.
“Everybody’s like, ‘It’s a love song,'” Gamino said. “It’s kind of an existential thing. I’m just really scared of being alone. When I was little, there was a big dog down the street. I was really scared of it. But when I was with my sister, when I knew I had to protect her, I wasn’t afraid of the dog as much because somebody was there. I had a purpose…I kind of feel lost. I kind of lost that, I feel.”

Childish Gambino Says A$AP Rocky “Sneak-Dissed” Him
Gambino continued, addressing his insecure nature.
“I’m probably the most insecure person I know,” Gambino said. “A lot of people feel that way. Pretending you’re not like that is too much work. I could never be A$AP Rocky. I could never be him ’cause that’s just too much confidence in himself. I’m not like that. It was funny, yesterday he kinda sneak dissed me, but also gave me props but gave himself props at the same time. He was like, ‘I know you want to be me, but it’s funny, ’cause I wanna be you.’ I was like, ‘That is the most awesomest diss-slash-awesome cool thing.’ That’s the thing. I could never say that to anyone. I just don’t feel that way.”
In an article published October 17, it was reported that Gambino denied being clinically depressed. His denial came following a series of Instagram posts about his insecurities and fears.
