Organizers behind Rock the Bells say the virtual performance of Ol’ Dirty Bastard is “absolutely going to happen.” News of their plans was revealed earlier this month. Less than a week after, their plans were challenged by ODB’s widow and son. But now, Chang Weisberg, head of Guerilla Union and Rock the Bells says organizers are working to ensure that it takes place.
“I’m aware that she’s disappointed,” Chang said of Icelene Jones’ statements. “But the fact she’s reaching out to RZA and Divine [Mitchell Diggs, RZA’s brother] is a great thing. We’re working through it.”
In an interview with Radio, Chang also made sure to note that they are working with many people to make this event possible.

“We are going to work with the entire ODB family, including Divine and Cherry [Jones], ODB’s mother. It involves quite a few people actually. We want to do the right thing. We’re having all the right discussions. We’ll be speaking with all the right people. You can best believe that at the wishes of RZA and Divine from Wu-Tang Clan, as long as this looks and feels the way they want it to go down, it’s absolutely going to happen.”
In her initial statement and subsequent interview with HipHopDX, Icelene Jones claimed that she filed a cease and desist against Rock the Bells organizers. Chang refuted this statement, saying that it is untrue.
“Guerilla Union and Rock The Bells have not received a cease and desist,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Jones explained her displeasure with Rock the Bells.
“I’m the administrator [of ODB’s estate] and the only authority to give anyone permission to do anything like this—any likeness, any music,” Jones explained. “They need to come to me. I’m so available. I’m accessible. I’m easy to contact. I just want to make that understood. I’m a nice person. It’s just that people are doing things without my knowledge.”
In a different interview with HipHopDX, Weisberg shared that he is doing all he can to make sure he doesn’t let anyone down with the virtual performances of ODB and Eazy-E.

“If Tomica [Wright], Bone [Thugs-N-Harmony], RZA and Cherry [Jones] don’t approve of what we’re doing, I’ll be the first one to tell everybody, ‘I’m sorry. We didn’t do it.’ I can’t do this. ‘If you’re disappointed, let’s not do it.’ But at the same time, knowing who I am and the team of people around me, there’s no fuckin’ way we’re gonna let anybody down. It’s that simple. That’s my vision. Until we get there, my head’s down in the ground. I’m not even gonna look up for air. I’m gonna make sure we change music history those nights.”
