OutKast will be taking their hit album “Speakerboxx/The Love Below” from radio to the small screen. Big Boi and Andre 3000 will begin work on there first major film titled “Speakerboxx”. The HBO film will begin filming in May and stars both members of the group in what is being called a cross between “The Color Purple” and “Amelie”. “It’s a 1930s period piece and musical,” the film’s writer and director Bryan Barber said. “A lot of the music inspired the scenes and the scenes inspired other music.”
Both Dre 3000 and Big Boi will be writing music for the soundtrack album (it is unknown who the guest appearances will be done by) which will also be released as their next OutKast group album. It’s funk music,” Big Boi said. “As long as it’s funky and the vibes keep coming we’re going to keep grinding it.” Currently you can catch OutKast with Sleepy Brown on the hit song “I Can’t Wait” from the Barbershop soundtrack as well as their joint single “Roses”. A video for the single will be released later this month also directed by Bryan Barber.
“The idea is like a high school play,” Barber said. “It’s like three different cliques at high school. There’s a girl named Caroline that’s from the Roses clique of people, and then there’s the Speakerboxxx gang and the Love Below gang. Basically what happens is a love triangle when Caroline from the Roses clique dates both Dre and Big Boi, and the two find out about each other and fight over her.” Paula Abdul also makes a cameo appearance.
