While singer Lil’ Mo should be celebrating today’s release of her debut album, Based on a True Story, the singer is instead recovering at home from a champagne bottle attack.
An unknown assailant, outside the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, hit Mo in the head with a champagne bottle, on Friday. The perpetrator remains at large. The singer had just performed at a concert sponsored by Bay Area urban station KMEL and was getting into her limousine outside of the venue when the attack occurred.
Mo was treated at California Pacific Medical Center, where she received over 20 stitches for her wounds before being released. As a result of her injuries, the singer has been forced to cancel all of her scheduled public performances through June 29th to allow her time to recover. Mo’s label, Elektra, released the following statement regarding the attack:
“Elektra deplores this senseless act of violence. We hope the perpetrator is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. For this to happen on the eve of the most exciting week of Mo’s career makes us all doubly sad. Everyone at Elektra is praying for a speedy recovery and extends our heartfelt best wishes to Lil’ Mo, who truly is a ‘superwoman’ in our book.”
