This week was a scary one for Rick Ross, who held court as the ringleader of the Maybach Music Group freestyle at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards cypher but later went into the hospital after suffering two seizures. Eminem did what he does best, dominating the cyphers with his Shady 2.0 crew, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf. Meanwhile, Drake dropped off his new single “Make Me Proud” featuring Nicki Minaj in anticipation of tonight’s Saturday Night Live performance, and Common revealed the title of his upcoming collaborative album with Nas.

Rick Ross started out having the best week ever. With his Maybach Music Group team (Wale, Pill, Stalley and Meek Mill), Ricky Rozay positioned himself as one of the forerunners for best crew freestyle during the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards cyphers. He even let viewers go behind the scenes of the shoot, showing it was all off the top of the dome, and took some time out to reflect on his former confrontation with Kreayshawn at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. But Rawse made headlines on Friday after suffering a seizure during a flight that had to make an emergency landing. Everything seemed to be OK, but then he had yet another seizure while on another flight. His condition is reportedly stable.

One of the most highly anticipated cyphers at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards was worth the hype. Eminem, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf headed to a warehouse in Detroit, Michigan to rhyme over a grizzly beat courtesy of DJ Premier. Yelawolf went in first, spitting against the instrumental in his nasal drawl. The Slaughterhouse crew, which previewed the new song “Who’s the Illest,” came next, producing heaps of quotables like “Hi, Rihanna” (a line that Royce Da 5’9 later explained). Marshall was last up at bat, showing that his freestyle skills were far from rusty – also evidenced by the behind-the-scenes clip of the shoot.
