K-Salaam & Beatnick have secured an August 23rd date for the re-release to their remix project Never Can Say Goodbye
, which originally dropped in September 2009. Available for purchase at the end of the summer, the album, which features remixes of tracks by Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, will be released through Legitimix, which specializes in releasing remix projects legally through its site.
K-Salaam wanted to make it clear that the re-release – or original record – was intended to capitalize on any situations. “For the record, we created this project before Michael Jackson passed. We did not create it with the intention to exploit his legacy, as other remix projects have done,” he told HipHopDX. “We would like to urge other producers and musicians to proceed with caution when attempting to re-create or rearrange art that comes from such great and influential individuals.”
Though the project was released for free, the duo knows the risks in putting it up for sale. “We want to be clear that we are fully aware of how bold of an action it is to actually release such a project. We do not take this lightly. This is precisely why we spent so much time on each remix; and put our heart and soul into every note, every snare, every high-hat, etc.,” he continued. “We are in the train of thought that you should not recreate something of such high artistic value, unless your recreation is at least equally as good as the original version. With that said, I think our work speaks for itself.”
