Ice Cube and Eve are enjoying the fruits of their hard work as the new movie “Barbershop” takes the number one spot in box office. “Barbershop”, which was developed by Ice Cube’s production company Cube Vision, tells the story of a son who is no longer wants to keep his family inherited Chicago barbershop. After selling the business to a neighborhood loan shark, Calvin (played by Ice Cube) decides there’s more to appreciate in life then money. Cast members also include Cedric the Entertainer, Sean Patrick Thomas, Anthony Anderson and several up and coming actors.
This film not only offers fans the laughs they are anticipating, but a great storyline. “Barbershop” brought in an estimated $21 million dollars this weekend, almost doubling the $12 million it took to make it. The film opened in 1,605 theaters nationwide and made an average of $13,084 dollars per cinema. Before “Barbershop” had even hit the theatre’s MGM, the distributor of the movie decided they wanted to make a sequel. When speaking about the high sales of “Barbershop” in its first week Peter Adee, head of marketing for “Barbershop” distributor MGM said, “If you make a good movie, they’ll come.”
