Wyclef Jean can add movie producer to his long resume of skills as he co-executive produces his first feature film titled “Shottas”.

“Shottas” which means gunmen in Jamaican patois, tells the story of two friends in Kingston Jamaica who plan to get rich quick and leave their poverty stricken town. The gritty gangsta story touches on a life of organized crime, drugs, guns, extortion and money. The two main characters are portrayed by Kymani Marley( in the role of Biggs) who is not only an Grammy nominated reggae artist but the son of Bob Marley and one of my favorite reggae artist Spragga Benz who plays Wayne.

Wyclef does have a role in the film as Richie Effs, who happens to be musically inclined. The film does not short change its originality by changing the Jamaican patois language. It does use subtitles for those who are unfamiliar with the language. Although the film had its first premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, it has not yet been picked up by a national movie distributor. Wyclef is also set to hit the screen in another film titled “Country Bears”. Hopefully “Shottas” will be in theatres by some time next year!
