Hip Hop Album Sales: T.I., Chris Webby, Logic

After debuting at #2 and #4 in their first week on shelves, albums from T.I. and Logic fell double digit spots last week to #13 and #31, respectively. Chris Webby’s debut album, Chemically Imbalanced, came in at #25 with just over 13,000 units sold, while R&B group Jagged Edge made its return to a tune of 12,468 albums sold.

Stalley managed to break the Top 40 with his Maybach Music Group debut album, Ohio, while Killer Mike and El-P crept up to the #50 spot in the second week of their album Run The Jewels 2 being available for purchase.

    T.I.’s Paperwork Falls To #13

After nearly breaking the 80,000 mark in its first week, T.I.’s Paperwork suffered a 66% drop in sales to 26,894 last week, bringing the the latest total count to 106,827 albums sold.

T.I. has described Paperwork as the first in a thematic trilogy. HipHopDX gave the album three out of five stars in a recent review, with writer Kellan Miller noting that “T.I. is judged on a much higher scale given the quality of his past releases.”

    Chris Webby Lands At #25

Released by his own label Homegrown Music in conjunction with E1 Music, Chris Webby’s debut album, Chemically Imbalanced, made its way to #25 with a total of 13,217 units sold in its first week, just beating out Logic’s latest sales numbers in the process.

Last month, Chris Webby spoke with HipHopDX about using music to encourage social change.

“Hip Hop is a medium to explain things to people,” he said. “You can say so much in one song, so I think it’s important to take a stand on shit. If you care about something, fucking talk about it. Not just popping bottles and fucking bitches. Everyone loves that of course. I mean, if that’s all we’re fucking worried about we’re going to hell in a handbasket on this planet. I know that much. Just care. Rappers need to start caring a little more. Just a little bit.“

    Stalley Cracks The Top 40

After a string of retail offerings like Self Made Vol. 3 and Honest Cowboy: EP, Stalley finally released his debut album, Ohio, via Maybach Music Group last week (October 27). Ohio sold a total of 10,229 last week, enough to land the album at #35 on the Billboard 200.

Last week, Stalley spoke with HipHopDX about his debut and career up to this point.

“What I bring to Hip Hop is that hard work ethic that was instilled in my being raised in a blue-collar town and an original and great story,” he said. “My life is a great story and I feel like people can take a lot from it and be inspired by it.”

    1. Stalley sold 110k. Not just 10k. Stalley’s sales are bundled into taylor swift’s in a desperate effort to make her seem like a winner.

      1. You should find a better gimmick to get attention its tired and makes you look like you have mental problems.

    2. The South is still moving units, Jeezy had the better album and Tip had the more commercial album but both did cool. They set up their collabo album perfect and they both have clout at Atlantic so that album will get the green light.

      I don’t fuck with Logic.

I don’t fuck with Lacrea but that track that S1 did “Wish” is flamez, salute Dirty Rice. Religion is overated.

I only fuck with Killer Mike solo shit.

Stalley got skills but he isnt a marketable solo artist, he is more like Currensy without the cult following.

The Iggy bitch is a disgrace, they let a tranny get over with the radio payolo, shameless.

      Mainstream HipHop is dying.

      1. “I only fuck with Killer Mike solo shit.”

Why are you some type of racist? Even the godfather of NY Nasir Jones co-signs Run The Jewels.

      2. white people aint salty just wanted to know if OP if OP was really just a racist or if El P fucked his sister

      3. If I was white I’d be a racist no doubt but I’m not so I can say I only fuck with Killer Mikes solo stuff because that’s what I prefer to listen to.

      4. yep just as i thought. a clown ass racist nigga cant provide no real reason because its all about skin color and not skills or lyrics.

    3. LMFAO that nigga Stalley sold less than Riff Raff and he had Lebron fucking James promoting his record! Ross must have lost so much money on this guy, Pill would have been a better investment.

    4. Rick Ross tried to get a jump on the industry by trying to sign dudes who were hot on 2DopeBoyz in 2010. Couldn’t get Wiz or Curren$y so settled for Stalley.

Same way Diddy tried to rape Odd Future and Lil B and had to settle for Machine Gun Kelly who is still way more successful than Stalley will ever be.

      1. Yeah dumbfuck let’s go sign rappers off 2Dopeboys instead of rappers that can cross over and make you some real money, more than likely rappers get signed off their Mixtapes, hot songs and YT views than they do that garbage website you are promoting.

      2. Stalley and Rockie Fresh will never cross over or make anyone any real money. Good joke though and you know its fucking true.

      1. Ross was promoting the fuck outta him. He went on a press run and had a cardboard cutout of Stalley beside him in all his interviews LMAO. He even had a few minutes of promo in the latest Hood Billionaire trailer vid.

      2. Rozay dont give a fuck about Stalley… Why you think he started promoting his own album and singles when Stalley was trying to do the same instead of putting all his support behind his artist like he’s done for Meek and Wale in the past.

      3. His fans just let him down, Logic did 70k with no promo. Dude got dam near 200,000 followers on twitter at least 15,000 of them could’ve went & bought this album.

      4. Stalley had excellent promo, he went on a promo tour and has had radio ads, print ads, Internet banners and promotional videos….etc.

Ross put all his support behind him with songs, videos, and trailers and did everything he could on his end but I don’t think Atlantic did everything they could have done.

What Stalley didn’t have was high profile features, a radio hit, a marketable image and mainstream acceptance.

A Midwest artist in the same vein as Spitta I don’t think an artist like Stalley can do monster units but as long as Stalley, KRIT, Ab Soul and other nonconformist artist continue to make good music they will still continue to have fans who support them.

      5. HAHA Spitta sells more mixtapes out his trunk than Stalley pushed on Atlantic records!

He even tried to blatantly steal that G-Side song and put Scarface on it to get popping months back and it ain’t work!

      6. His worst move was signing to MMG. He also has no identity. He actually had a nice lil following before he sold the fuck out and started making fake dope boy music with the biggest fraud in music.

      7. look at all the excuses bruthadoodoo is making for his boy stalley. LOL i bet he wouldnt even fuck with him AT ALL if Ross didnt sign him to mediocre music group

    5. Stalley gonna be serving wings and fries at Wingstop for the next 3 years to make up for this FLOP

      1. WTF is Hoosiers? Is that some old nigga shit? Young niggas like me don’t fuck with none a that.

    6. Its sad cause stalley is really good its just he has no promotion and nobody knows who he is but a small group of ppl. But the music industry as a whole is falling of no one is buying C.ds any more at all apparently.

    7. HOW IS G-UNIT ABOUT TO SELL 100 K FIRST WEEK WHEN I ONLY SOLD 30k? NOT INCLUDING THE ITUNES THAT SOLD OVER 50 K ALREADY!!! GAME DICK RIDERS WHERE YA AT? WHY SO QUIET ALL OVER SUDDEN?

    8. You morons get on here and argue about record sales every week as if it actually affects your life in anyway. And I use the word “life” loosely

      1. Then you got morons like you who get on here and read moronic comments every week and whine about them as if they actually affect your “life”.

    9. “What Stalley didn’t have was high profile features, a radio hit, a marketable image and mainstream acceptance.”

Isn’t that where Ross comes in? Shit… he should have just stayed indie if hes only selling 10k with Ross pushing him on everyone.

You telling me Ross couldn’t get French Montana, Lil Wayne or T.I. on here to help him out and get a single poppin?

      1. Ross cant even get his own singles poppin bruh bruh, so ask yourself the fuck he gon do for Stalleys scrub ass????????

    10. Stalley would be sitting pretty right about now if he put that joint out on his own and didn’t have to pay Ross and Atlantic back all that money plus 90% of the non existent profits.

      1. hes no distributed by atlantic. if he was he wuda sold a lot more and had a bigger budget. atlantic ONLY distributes ross from mmg

    11. STALLEY SELLING LESS THAN RIFF RAFF WITH RICK ROSS AND LEBRON JAMES PUSHING HIS ALBUM LMFAO YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!

      1. Lazy Lloyd should have started a label of bums from Queens. He could have signed SBOE and Trav and funded their flop albums.

    12. I toured with Stalley. Shows were all empty. One venue everyone left and went outside after the openers performed, basically no one was there to see him lol only their friends who rap. His manager came outside begging people to come back in. Usually I wouldn’t talk about experiences with artists, but dude was kind of a dick, complaining about his hotel not being grand enough like he’s somebody.

    13. “Released by his own label Homegrown Music in conjunction with E1 Music, Chris Webbys debut album, Chemically Imbalanced, made its way to #25 with a total of 13,217 units sold in its first week,”

Damn!!!!! How did Stalley get outsold by this independent nobody?

      1. Ross should scoop up Webby and Riff Raff and watch his money pile up, send Stalley back to Ohio to clean toilets.

      2. stalley got shitty distribution thats why he sales are so low. they arent marketing him to the target and best buy music buyers so people aremt able to pick up the album. wat people need to know about MMG is that THEY DONT HAVE DISTRIBUTION. so if u sign with them u have to pray u get hot enough for a distributor to pick u up while ur with ross, or have ross pitch u to distributors. this is WHY stalleys album is at 10k cuz the distribution company is shit, CUZ MMG DOESNT HAVE AN OFFICIAL DISTRIBUTOR FOR ALL THEIR RELEASES. IF U LOOK AT ALL THEIR ARTISTS, EACH ARTIST ALBUM COMES OUT ON DIFFERENT DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES UNDER THE MMG IMPRINT. learn the business if u gonna talk about it, u little nug huggin ktt faggets

      1. 1. Stalley never sold 110K, he doesn’t have the hype , the notoriety, or the fanbase to sell that much.

        2. If they were sold out, that means the stores only had a few copies available.

        3. Ohio is a state, not a city.

      2. 1. Stalley did sell 110k. The government is just tampering with sales again in favor of taylor swift. Most of Stalley’s sales are counted as taylors
        2. Most of the sales came from digital with a limited physical release.
        3. My mistake.

      3. 1. Stalley didn’t sell 110K. He’s not even a big name, so it’d be impossible for him to sell that much. All of Taylor’s sales are her own and none are from Stalley. You honestly think that an unknown bum rapper like Stalleyis gonna outsell the world’s biggest pop star? Come back to reality.

        2. That’s a lie.

    14. I was a former member of the Soul Temple Records. I got fucking screwed around being forced to pay RZA just to stay on that label when they should be paying me. RZA kept holding my album for weeks and then says that its getting pushed back indefinitely just to release a shitty wu tang album. Im am so fucking pissed at Soul Temple and RZA.

      1. your an idiot for falling for that. didnt ur spider sense go off when you had to PAY to stay on the label?? common sense guy

      2. we call them Scam Temple Records. Did you hear about the thousands of fans they ripped off? I was one of the lucky ones who got a refund from my credit card company then my Ghostface Killah package arrived 9 months later!

    15. In Stalley’s defense…a lot of stores didn’t have his album at all. Lmao it sucks because he’s one of the better artist on the MMG roster.

      1. Why does it suck? Did you enjoy the music? Did you purchase a copy? Do you validate all your artists based on how many other people bought their album? It’s 2014 buddy, fuck record sales and just enjoy the music

      2. Yea, Target didn’t have it in stores and neither did Best Buy. Hastings only ordered 1 copy at each of their 3 stores here. Just ONE copy. And it’s not like they had more and people bought them… The employee in the music section said that they had one copy and someone bought it, that’s it. So I had to call up a store and get them to hold me their one copy.

Logic’s album was also hard to find. It wasn’t sold in Target and I checked two Hastings before finding one copy of the regular edition at one of them. I finally found one copy of the deluxe edition at Best Buy.

      3. First random anonymous person, unfortunately I didn’t purchase it. I’m one of the few ppl on the planet that still purchases physical copies of albums & as I stated, no stores had it. Album sales matter just as much as the music. No one started that just enjoy the music shit until just about everyone started flopping.

    16. the Beauty of Independence EP did that with no promotion and wasn’t even available in stores untill next week Nov10th lol

    17. All these hiphop artists are flopping from left to right. There was a time when 100k sold the 1st week was considered a flop, now it is impressive in hiphop.Meanwhile Taylor Swift clearly proves that artists can still go platinum in one week, her new shit just sold 1.3 mil in one week in 2014! Clearly ppl are still buying albums just not hiphop albums.Smh.

    18. TI’s Paperwork should be named Paperflop.Logic’s Under pressure to Flopping Pressure and that nigga Stalley’s Ohio to Oh hell no.Real talk.

    19. stop with the excuses Stalley album came out under ATLANTIC FUCKING RECORDS

And it sold 110k copies. The government just makes up BS numbers again.

I also doubt swift sold 1.3 million.

      1. keep telling yaself that but we all know stalley sold less than an independent chris webby, i dont even know 1 song of his

      1. You ever considered how big Taylor Swift is with White America? If you find it hard to believe, then you’re an ignoramous.

      2. i know shes big its just amazing she sold more in 1 week than any project ross or MMG have ever released. LOL

taylor sold more in 1 week than everyone on MMG put together excluding ross

    20. “taylor sold more in 1 week than any rick ross album has ever sold total, even in 8 years!”

Different fanbases, but by all means continue the hate.

    21. “7.99 sounds like a deal to me”

It is a good deal, but my point was all the major releases are usually 12.99-13.99.

      1. so they were selling his shit for half price and still only pushed 10k, resulting in even less profit than they woulda got

      1. “Guess that makes Kendrick the She Wolf.”

what does this even mean dawg? is quoteman still making bad kendrick jokes 2 years later?

    22. “so they were selling his shit for half price and still only pushed 10k, resulting in even less profit than they woulda got”

Should he have sold more? lol No major release selling for $7.99 dents the charts. Even ITunes knew they had a stinker. Stalley needs to lawyer up and get out of that contract.

    23. Taylor Swift had to buy 900k copies and they grouped some of the sales for others including stalley’s into her sales count. She really only sold 200k.

      1. 200K is how much Taylor sold in one day. Stalley wished he could sell that much, but he can’t with his 10K total.

      2. 200k is all the fans bought. Some of the other sales were counted as taylor’s and she herself bought over 900k copies. Either way, she went weak platinum.

      3. Yeah, 200K is the amount fans bought for the first day. It sold over a million throughout the week (all bought by fans) and gives her another platinum album that’ll continue selling to multi-platinum status (BTW, no such thing as weak platinum, you’re either platinum or you’re not).

      4. homegirl sold 1.3 milli in 1 week in 1 country and he wants to call it weak platinum to make himself feel better about his fav rappers all putting up bricks.

not 1 artist in any genre has gone platinum in 2014 besides TS. not 1 album in all of hip-hop has even gone gold this year!
