A plethora of Mt. Rushmore memes have been populating social media for the last few weeks and it’s mostly been a way to spark amicable debates.
But Hip Hop fans were livid on Friday (June 11) after MyMixtapez posted a Mt. Rushmore meme on Twitter featuring the “G.O.A.T.S. Of Atlanta” — and appeared to make a few oversights.
While there can only be four, the four they chose — Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan and Lil Baby — seemed to infuriate a large population of people who stumbled across the meme. Among the first comments was, “No Young Thug or Outkast? Delete the whole shit.”
Outkast put Southern Hip Hop on the map in the 1990s beginning with André 3000 and Big Boi’s debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994. A year later, while accepting The Source Award for “Best New Rap Group,” they were booed and jeered as they sauntered up to the stage.
Now in what has become an iconic speech, 3 Stacks was undeterred and proudly proclaimed, “But it’s like this though: I’m tired of folks — them closed-minded folks. It’s like we got a demo tape and don’t nobody wanna hear it. But it’s like this, the South got somethin’ to say. That’s all I got to say.”
Needless to say, Outkast’s omission from the Mt. Rushmore meme had Hip Hop fans questioning its overall validity — and rightfully so.
T.I., who helped carve the path for trap music to make its ascent to mainstream notoriety, was also absent while So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, Goodie Mob and even Pastor Troy were forgotten as well.
Of course, that’s not to say Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan and Lil Baby haven’t made their own contributions to the culture, but it’s clear Twitter thinks there are other artists who are much more deserving.
Check out some of the reactions below.
These Mt. Rushmore discussions are getting kinds stupid. But for Atlanta, you gotta go with Gucci, Jeezy, TI, and Pastor Troy. Sorry Outkast and Goodie Mob, dont belong on the same mountain because they were hip hop legends, not Trap legends. One could also argue Lil Jon could have a spot up there for repping the ATL hard whether or not you like his music. Ludacris also has a claim on that mountain.
Outkast been talking about the trap, they just gave you the trap mixed in with everyday life. Stop make excuses for wack Atlanta niggas by saying outkast wasn’t trap, they encompassed the trap and a lot more.
I’m not mad at that list. Most people on here probably don’t even know who Pastor Troy is.
Salute for shouting out Luda
If there’s no outkast or ludacris, there is no list.
I know y’all gonna hate me for this but I still to this day don’t get the Andre 3000 thing, I’m not saying he’s wack but Top 5? 10? How? No solo albums, last drop was over a decade ago. Meanwhile his co-star is consistently dropping heat, why is Big Boi not mentioned in the same light as Staxxx. Never made sense to me
I been saying this from jump. 3000 told you Big Boi was better lol
he may not have dropped any albums…but there are not many artist that can match his lyricism
I agree that Big Boi should always be included anywhere they try to put Dre, but very few rappers can touch Andre’s verses.
Well, Future did birth a generation of fuckboys, so he’d be the frontman on the Mt Rushmore of no one who has ears can’t understand what the fuck he singing/rapping about list
Fuck this Mt Rushmore shit. Outkast, Killer Mike and Luda as THE ATL supergroup
Lil Young, they are the forefathers of game, they have laid the path for you young men to burn down the airways, they already know who put the DIRTY SOUTH DEFJAM OOORAY just parlee show them How ATL GOT ????
Lol, what?
Fam, you sound stupid as hell. From one Georgian to another (?)
True, especially right around Stankonia when they really started getting more exposure. That’s when Dre was starting to get carried away with that singing shit and people began overrating the hell out of him, mostly casual and new fans. I treated them as equals until that point, then Big Boi took over as my favorite member. Speakerboxxx was better than The Love Below. And Idlewild, Dre only rapped on the first track and “Hollywood Divorce”, the rest of the album, singing. Big Boi had better tracks and verses on there. And look what happened after, Andre started to show he couldn’t handle the fame and became a flute playing nomad, while Big Boi has managed to have a great solo career and dropped amazing solo albums. I would’ve posted this as an actual reply to your post, but it was starting to get too long, lol.
Who boo boo’d out this list?
Hahahaha. This era of rap will be laughed at by future generations. A bunch of whining, mumbling idiots with zero rhythm or timing. Hanana hanana hanana! Lmao
Outkast Pastor Troy Ludacris and T. I. Are Atlanta Mt Rushmore for real in that order
Domonique Wilkins, Mookie Blaylock, Primetime and Julio could out rap the ATL Rushmore list. F.I.L.A!
The rich homie disrespect is real I’m not saying he belongs on the mount but he invented a lot of the Atlanta sound that is today , young thug gunna and lil baby all sound like rich homie or were influenced by him
Andre 3000 and Ludacris stopped making music. Haven’t been around in well over a decade… The last time somebody saw Andre he was playing a flute in an airport. These guys aren’t even in the game anymore. It’s like talking about Ted Williams a baseball. Happened over a century ago.
Do any of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore still serve as president? Whether or not they still make music isn’t relevant. Especially considering that Jeezy, Lil Baby, etc will NEVER make anything remotely as good as an Outkast/Ludacris record.
Oh brother. Your lack of understanding of what mt Rushmore is scares me. No wonder an American education is something to laugh at. Read a book or something man.
ying yang twins?
Shit is like putting Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Russel Westbrook on MT Rushmore. When there is Jordan, Lebron, Duncan, etc.
Not lebron. Hes a coward
Mt Rushmore should be 3000, Jeezy, TI, Pastor Troy
bruh jeezy is the ATL sellout. fuk that clown ass
