Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Beats All 2021 Rap Albums To Double Platinum Status

There’s no doubting Drake‘s status as a Hip Hop sales king with all the units he’s moved throughout his career. The 6 God’s latest album Certified Lover Boy has only added to his already-impressive tally.

On Thursday (January 6), Chart Data announced that Certified Lover Boy has sold over two million total units in the United States, making it eligible for double platinum certification.

CLB is Drake’s sixth consecutive multi-platinum album, but more importantly, it’s the first and only rap album from 2021 to reach double platinum status.

Drake faced stiff competition in last year’s sales race from Kanye West’s Donda, J. Cole’s The Off-Season, Lil Nas X’s MONTERO, Moneybagg Yo’s A Gangsta’s Pain and Polo G’s Hall of Fame, to name just a few. But the 6 God’s performance in the fourth quarter proved too much to overcome.

Drake Swipes Left On Relatability For Fan Service Album Certified Lover Boy

Drake unleashed Certified Lover Boy on September 3, and it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 613,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. It raced to platinum status in just three weeks.

CLB ranked as the best-selling rap album of 2021 with 1.970 million total sales, according to Billboard, and is nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards (which were due to go ahead on January 31, but have since been postponed due to COVID-19).

Things aren’t all peachy for Drake, though. The Toronto native is set to appear on the late Aaliyah’s upcoming posthumous album Unstoppable, but fans are upset about it. The male-heavy guest list — which also includes Future, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, The Weeknd and Ne-Yo — has prompted backlash from devoted Aaliyah fans.

“Imagine having the opp to create a new Aaliyah album with an entire generation of women that were directly influenced (Ciara, Teyana, Tinashe, Normani, Jhene, CxH, H.E.R., Sevyn, etc.),” one fan vented on Twitter. “But instead we get Snoop Dogg, Neyo, Future, CB, a weird Weeknd song…yikes.”

    1. Yet not one hit playing on the radio or memorable at all. Weird. I guess those click farms aren’t paying off anymore and his tween fans are in their late twenties now and embarrassed for him and his music like all real heads have been from the jump. LOL. I wonder which new artist he’ll poach for a hit next? This dude supposedly sold more units than the Beatles but has 1 10th of Paul Mcartney’s money. Weird.

      1. I heard too sexy every day on the station I listen too. Certainly far more times than the kanye west song with sellout weeknd

    2. this album was hot garbage and i even consider myself a fan. shows you what sells the most doesnt necessarily mean its good. of course most people would say why retire when youre still selling a lot but everything he has been putting out in recent years has done nothing but hurt his legacy. im convinced everybody that is still listening to him is a girl lol i dont know any guys listening to him and or any guys who takes him serious anymore.

      1. Well I’m pretty sure his fanbase has always been like at least 80 percent girls. If you’re a guy listening to this man there is something going on. Being a Drake fan as a guy should be a huge red flag to all girlfriends/wives that maybe he isn’t all that straight as he seems lol

        1. LOL true. I mean the album is called Certified Lover Boy and he calls himself Champagne Papi… You can’t get any gayer than that.

        1. i wouldnt have any issue if he would at least admit he was gay. thats my only problem. no issue with gay people at all.. just admit it. not sure if because it would hurt his sales or what but its pretty obvious.

        1. Slap yourself into unconsciousness then revive yourself then slap yourself until unconsciousness again for making that ridiculous comment.

    3. Tried my hardest to rock with him and defend him but after that I’m Too Sexy song…yeah he’s definitely gone on gay now. That had to be the worst Drake song I’ve ever heard in my life and I was a fan until that. After that song it made me realize that I was I hardcore fan of this guy, defending him at every turn and now I’m finding out he’s gay. I definitely need to rethink some of my life choices here and need to consider therapy if he was one of my idols for real. The hell was wrong with me. I really do need help. I hope other people wake up and see the writing on the wall before it’s too late.

          1. You’re a whole lame for calling someone a sucks and also for biting one of MF’s aliases. Did you just find out about him last week, dork? Also… Nice used to be a Drake fan. Idiot.

    4. CLB is the gayest album he’s ever put out. Drake went full butt cheeks out on this on cuz it was certified @$$.

    5. iM NOT cool with anyone so I’ll turn them in on drugs and conspiracy and scams that I cant go two the studio however I can easily say where the evidence of your claims

    6. yeah he’s getting help from the middle east two push rocks the other day nobody was fucking with his shit anymore because his writers our new and uneducated ask trump. you need two learn to engineer science and take fucking risk and mess with the track enough

    7. It was on your disappointing albums of 2021 list tho…stop pushing artists just b’c they’re popular. How about promoting rappers that can actually write and spit
