DJ Premier Announces ‘Hip Hop Volume 1’ Album With Nas, Lil Wayne, Run The Jewels + More

    With Hip Hop’s 50th birthday landing in 2023, Mass Appeal has a series of events and projects plotted to continue celebrating the momentous occasion. On Monday (July 11), the Nas co-founded company announced DJ Premier’s latest endeavor, Hip Hop Volume 1, the first EP installment of the Hip Hop 50: The Soundtrack.

    The five-track effort features contributions from several pillars of the culture, including Nas, Lil Wayne, Run The Jewels, Slick Rick, Rapsody, Joey Bada$$ and Remy Ma, and is scheduled to arrive on Friday (July 15).

    “It’s an honor to kick off this iconic Hip Hop 50 music program,” DJ Premier said. “Hip Hop continues to inspire fans across the globe and it’s incredible to think of what the next 50 years will bring.”

    The Soundtrack will encompass a series of 10 EPs of all newly released music from prolific producers Swizz Beatz, Mustard, The-Dream, Mike WiLL Made-IT, No I.D., Hit-Boy, Take A Daytrip and Tainy. The entire series will be distributed via Mass Appeal’s new deal with The Orchard.

    The project aims to further solidify the #HipHop50 movement as it “not only captures 50 years of culture but will also honor some of the latest and greatest to do it.” A portion of all #HipHop50 proceeds will be donated to various charitable organizations, including, the Universal Hip Hop Museum, which is expected to open its doors in 2024.

    Mass Appeal’s massive #HipHop50 initiative includes strategic partnerships, immersive global activations and innovative content/programming in celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th birthday. Mass Appeal recently announced its partnership with Live Nation Urban to produce live event programming.

    Mass Appeal released several documentaries in honor of the #HipHop50 movement last year, including You’re Watching Video Music Box, Ricky Powell: The Individualist and Rolling Like Thunder. It followed up with Cypress Hill: Insane in The Brain, Bushwick Bill: Geto Boy and The Savage Life of Lorine Padilla.

    1. Back in the late 2010s Lil Wayne was considered a joke by the hip-hop OGs. I remember Mos Def mocking him for his lack of skills as a rapper.FOH! This midget gremlin look alike motherfucker fooled everybody but I ain’t buying this shit. He remains the motherfucker who kissed Birdman on the mouth and can’t rap for shit.

    2. 10 producers I’d want to handle the EP’s, Premier, Dre, RZA, Storch, Timbo, Pharrell, Just Blaze, Havoc, Alchemist, Quik and Swizz… Kanye if he got his shit together!

    3. Good. Let us see if Dj Premiere still got it. The last beat of his I really loved was MVP for Ludacris and Born in the Trap for the Game so it has been a while. Bring it!!!

    4. How come I wasn’t invited to make one of these EPs? My fans will be super disappointed!!!
