DJ Clue has criticized the quality of some of today’s Hip Hop music, saying he thinks rap would be better if artists actually put pen to paper during the creative process.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (August 17), ClueManatti revealed he’s not a fan of some of the music being produced today, and he offered some advice to those making music in the modern era.
“A lot of these records would be better if these rappers took a pen and pad and wrote their raps down,” Clue tweeted. “It needs to be well thought out and not just saying anything.”
He added: “Some of these songs be A,B,C, and awful.. TF.”
Several people in Clue’s comments agreed with his sentiments. “Word I’m so over it at this point,” one user wrote, adding: “The producer should be the star.” Another said: “Finally someone says it.” Some wanted Clue to bring up specific names.
There are many rappers who pride themselves on never writing lyrics down and creating hits off the top, the most famous being JAY-Z and Lil Wayne. But not every artist has the capacity to do this.
Consequence recently commented on the craze and said he thinks more rappers should use songwriters to keep their music at a high level of quality.
Appearing on an episode of Drink Champs with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, the Queens native talked about rappers refusing to collaborate with songwriters to maintain an image when it’s actually damaging their careers.
“Part of the rules of the culture was always being your own person, having that individuality,” he said on the July 23 episode. “So when you were presenting yourself as an MC, you’re presenting yourself. But when you’re presenting yourself as a rapper, you don’t have to be an MC to make a hit record.”
Back in 2012, Cons’ friend and frequent collaborator Kanye West revealed he didn’t write down any lyrics for his first four albums.
In an outtake from Ice-T’s directorial debut The Art of Rap, Yeezy said that he didn’t actually begin writing down his lyrics until he started work on his magnum opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
More recently, Young Thug admitted to never writing his raps down. “I’ve never written a lyric. Ever,” he told i-D. “I really haven’t. I kind of just freestyle. I just go with it as it comes. I never really wrote anything down. I’m not patient enough to sit and write. It just takes a lot of my day.”
He’s right ..but they are on par with his dj skills he’s trash too
He’s a whole legend tho..you don’t like him..fine..but come on bro..trash?
Way to let us know that your opinion is trash. Clue has always been highly respected…
Obviously. Rap music is complete shit these days with very few bright spots.
Well shit nigg@, why don’t you make some then.
He’s a DJ, idiot. He spins the records; of course he’d be pissed if he only had shitty music to spin…
Oh yeah, well how come he has producer credits on majority of tracks on, for example, his album The Professional 2.
Today’s rappers are practically not up to par to the Legends of yesterday’s that I grew up on. I am calling them out from top to bottom starting with the no 1 in the streets NBA Young Boy, Lil baby, Da baby, Lil Uzi vert, Polo G, Post Malone ,21 Savage, Roddy Rich, Pooh Shiesty,Jack Harlow and Lil Durk. I ain’t trying to be disrespectful to my own kind but all these artists are Generic, copycats, imposter’s, Cunny, Lame, Wack, bootleg, and lastly ignorant. They all got dope beats but ain’t got nothing beneficial to say to masses but brag about their money, women and all the lame garbage them boy’s be talking about like how many bodies they don silenced or murdered and how many shooter’s they got to carry out their heat. Thankfully we still got Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J Cole,Travis Scott, Migo’s, Future,Lil Wayne, Eminem,Rick Ross,Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West to rely on for quality hip-hop music that will never die.
I can go on and on till the break of dawn but why waste my breath on the status of the rap game. Things have changed, the World ? is also changing. This generation are growing up with no moral’s or conscience, they got their pants all the way down their backside and are sleeping with the same sex or transvestites . I guess this is the norm and they ain’t no shame on being a down-low punk nowadays. To each is own, Sodom &Gomorrah of the new age and time. Please stop teaching my kids to be punks instead teach them how to be real men like NWA, EPMD, KRS One, Public Enemy,Eric B & Rakim, De La Soul,Wu-Tang Clan,Kool G Rap,Gang Starr, the Sugarhill Gang, Run-DMC,2 -Pac,Big Daddy Kane and our Sister’s like Salt-N-Pepa,Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Lauryn Hill. To this generation go research who all this Legendary artists are .Listen to there LP’s,study them and pay homage to the one’s that paved the way for all ya’ll to be millionaire’s and successful.
And i blast DJ Clue beats for being wack and his annoying as “DJ CLUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE” shouting over tracks. The Professional 1&2 were nice though, because of the artists involved. But he still a wack ass DJ.
