Denzel Curry sat down with XXL for an extensive interview on Monday (May 9) and proclaimed with confidence he’s the best rapper alive, just weeks after the release of his latest album Melt My Eyez See Your Future.
“Just look out for me,” Curry said. “Look out for any of the next projects that’s ’bout to come out. I’m ’bout to shake the whole game up. I don’t care what anybody gotta say, bro. I’m the best rapper alive. Point blank, period.”
Maryland-bred rapper IDK, who recently linked with Denzel Curry for his own single “Dog Food,” disagreed with Curry’s braggadocious claim and challenged his peer on Twitter.
“Battle me @denzelcurry,” IDK wrote.
While Curry exuded confidence at the end of the interview, he was modest elsewhere as he reflected back on his decade-plus career, saying he’s just happy to be able to do something he loves every day.
“I really don’t feel like a veteran even though I been doing this for over 10 years,” Curry said. “I just thought of it as me doing. Ten years worth of work so I could get somewhat noticed. And I still got work to do. Ultimately, I just feel good about it. That I’m able to do something I love every day.”
Denzel Curry dropped off his fifth studio album Melt My Eyez See Your Future on March 25. The project debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard 200 and featured appearances from T-Pain, 6LACK, Rico Nasty, JID, slowthai and others.
In a separate interview with Pitchfork, the Florida lyricist said the project was heavily inspired by The Roots and Kanye West.
“I wanted something that was gonna sound big,” he told the outlet. “I wanted some of these songs to sound like they belonged in stadiums. ‘Sanjuro,’ ‘X-Wing,’ ‘The Last’ and ‘Ain’t No Way’ are definitely my Graduation moments. If you listen to that album, it has a variety of beats, too. I just wanted something that sounded as colorful.”

Who ????
2 rappers that will never reach their potential.
Ain’t this dude just said he can’t do what Kendrick does like two days ago smh
I like Denzel Curry but he must have lost his mind talking like that. Lmaooo.
Every month a second or a third line rapper has to claim he’s the best.
Definitely not ? he stole the best lines he’s ever had from me… And to be honest that was like some of my mid tier stuff I wrote 6 years ago. I’m way better than I was then and he can’t even catch up to that version of me.
how bout when Danny Brown said in 2016 “I kill a mic with Killer Mike, roll el’s out a p with El-P”
you must’ve stolen that, yeah?
I Thought Lil Wayne Was Still Alive, Whose Friend Is This FOH
Overhyped…
Maybe try making a half way listenable album and then we’ll talk. Curry been fell off, last good album was in 2016, everything since been weak. He should’ve stuck to his original style, back when he was biting underground Memphis rap. Dude will drop one good song and get me hyped for an album, (Ricky, PERCS), and then the rest of the album will be meh. Pouya goes way harder than this guy anyway, Pouya does that style that Denzel tries to do way better.
