All four police officers involved in the death of George Floyd have been arrested and charged, but Beyoncé is reminding her fans there’s still work to be done.
The charges finally came down on fired Minnesota officers Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J.A. Keung and Tou Thao on Wednesday (June 3), over a week after Floyd’s death on May 25.
While the prior lack of accountability was the initial intent behind the worldwide protests that have erupted since, an arrest is only the first step – and Bey brought a message to Instagram to make sure people remember that.
“The world came together for George Floyd,” the posts reads, along with an image of the streets of Minneapolis flooded with people in Floyd’s name. “We know there is a long road ahead. Let’s remain aligned and focused in our call for real justice.”
Conviction are an even bigger hurdle, which Busta Rhymes noted when reacting to the charges as well.
“Serious and real convictions needed next,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Bey’s not the only one in the Carter household speaking out, as her husband JAY-Z has been vocal amid the quest for justice for Floyd as well.
Minnesota governor Tim Walz revealed he received a call from Hov himself last weekend, urging for him to do what’s right. Walz listened, and days later appointed Attorney General Keith Ellison to the case.
Imagine if all these protesters spent their times on their life goal as much as they spend on the protests
How come all the hard working and successful people Of colour don’t complain about systematic racism?
It would be like complaining about the Easter bunny
my mans in that neighborhood right from near the m stop use to set up shop in that area his neighbors had major beef with them building the Barclays center they went to a town hall people had to leave that whole area changed I never remember Beyonce talking then
We came together? Did we? Not at all. The Anti-white haters showed their true agendas though. These celebrities keep posting inflammatory posts and telling the useful idiots to keep going? Yeah, ruin your records and keep getting arrested over this shit. Wtf is that? These idiots should use their money and influence to push out mayors and governors allowing their cities to burn over retarded cops and violent felon. This Bs should have never went this far. People are idiots to listen to this ugly dude and his husband Jay z.
Great point
what has to be done? what work needs to be done? just what exactly? all about what has to be done but no details!
Well Bey, Jay and Busta. The struggle has only just begun. The Lawmakers, Governors, Mayors, Police Departments must be lobbied and pressured into making some important adjustments that would curb these trends that are commonly killing people in Black communities. Black communities must excercise their right to vote wisely and scrutinize their would be candidates on issues of concern to them.
