A Tribe Called Quest Reportedly Releasing New Album With Phife Dawg

Epic Records executive L.A. Reid revealed that A Tribe Called Quest has a new album coming out when he gave an interview with the Rap Radar Podcast.

“You know what I’m excited about, though? A Tribe Called Quest,” Reid says after being asked about the label’s current projects. “We have A Tribe Called Quest album coming.”

The pioneering 1990s Hip Hop group suffered a major loss with the passing of Phife Dawg earlier this year. The upcoming album was supposedly recorded before his death.

“I’m really happy about it, man,” the executive says. “It’s really something special. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about out of everything we’re working on.”

Reid explains how he already had an established relationship with the group and gives more details on what fans can expect.

“[Q-Tip and I have] a long relationship,” Reid says. “Q-Tip’s a real friend, man. We didn’t hang out, take pictures, and act Hollywood, but he’s a real friend. He’s made some incredible music and I love it. Phife is there, the whole group, Jarobi, everybody, the entire group. It’s great too. It’s coming very soon, it’ll be their first album in 18 years.”

The project will be Tribe’s sixth album and its first since 1998’s The Love Movement.

Earlier this year, Q-Tip reflected on Phife Dawg’s legacy after his passing.

“He left me with the gift of unconditional love and brotherhood that will NEVER be lost with me… Ever,” Q-Tip wrote. “As we commit his body tomorrow his spirit is with us… I take comfort in knowing that GOD is the best of planners. I take comfort in knowing that divine order is certain… I take pride in having the blessing of knowing and having Malik in my life.”

    1. Someone trying to make some money off Phife dead… If they didn’t release an album in the last 18 years… why would they want to do it now that ATQC will never be the same ATQC?

    2. And no one is going to buy it because no one cares about tribe. They always been overrated to me. They damn near 50 sit Yall old asses down..

      1. nobody’s buying your record. you must be out of your mind if you think this doesn’t go double platinum. why did you click on this article if you aren’t fan?

    3. I’m for one really hype about this. Q tip last two solo albums has been fire. I’m sure that will help with this project. And besides to be frank I know them n*ggas was like fu*K this I’m dying n*gga let’s make this tight.

    4. These niggas may have been hot way back in the day, but aint nobody lookin to hear some old azz niggas rappin bout knee operations and prune juice……..Foh bitch.

      1. Well… I am looking forward hearing the album. You at least must be a Future and Drake fan under the age of 30.

      2. 3hunna needs a pistol whippin’ for disrespecting legends. At least we have legends from our generation of hip-hop. Ain’t no legends anymore, just industry pop star puppets such as Drake. 3hunna can eat a dick.

      3. Without pioneers such ATCQ there wouldn’t be any of your skinny jeans and belly shirt wearing imposters that y’all consider rappers nowadays. Traffic is calling, go play in it.

    5. I love how people come on to the page to take the time to make a comment that no one cares. if no one cares, you do. you cared enough to open the article and comment! LOL Calling an album garbage and you haven’t heard a single song really shows how much your opinion is worth. 🙂

    6. I wonder if these are tracks that were recorded during ATCQ’s various RUMORED reunions album sessions… I remember several times this was suppose to had happen; one around 2000, one around 2003 (Madlib was reported to had been involved), one around 2007, and another as recent as 2015/16. These were RUMORED sessions where the group would go into the studio and do like 5-7 tracks to ‘see what they would sound like together.’
I truly hope it is released this time, and it would make since considering we haven’t gotten word on the 25th Anniversary Release of Low End Theory (released September 1991)

*One of these sessions was said to had resulted in the creation of I.C.U. (Doing It) that was never officially released / ‘lead single’ for Violator 3 Comp. Album.
