Japanese multihyphenate Yayoi Daimon switches gears in her latest soulful bop, “Chill Like A Midnight,” featuring South Korean hip hop artist Reddy.

Daimon delivers pop vocals against an afro-beat production, a distinctly more laidback direction than her previous singles “TOP GYAL” and “EGO.” The new track’s look also gives an analog-style feel, adding a more intimate vibe.

Reddy and Yayoi Daimon have worked together in the past, collaborating with SKY-HI and DABO in the Red Bull Music-backed “The White Edition.”

The Japanese hip hop artist has been busy this year. She had a guest feature in Thai singer-songwriter Pyra’s anti-Asian fetish single, “Yellow Fever,” with Ramengvrl. She’s also taken the leap as an independent artist, which she describes in a press release as “achieving [a] lifelong goal of becoming a self-sustaining artist.”
