HipHopDX Premiere: On the heels of its Uncovered project, five-piece Barbados-based collective 2 Mile Hill has returned with black and white visuals for a cover of Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love,” a song lead singer Mahalia and sole female member always wanted to sing. The rock-rap oriented group took on a reggae vibe for its version of the song.

“It’s always so exciting to cover an artist as iconic as Queen Bey and ‘Drunk In Love’ is such a fun song,” Mahalia tells DX. “It’s already reminiscent of our carefree, Caribbean lifestyle, and love of good alcohol [laughs], so it was just natural to take it in the direction we did. The reggae vibe just came organically and felt like it was meant to be.”

“Ever since we covered ‘Moves Like Jagger’ a while ago as Nexcyx, I always wanted to create another arrangement in a similar style since it was such a great experience working on that one,” musical director Andre adds. “We love Beyoncé’s music, and have covered a few of her songs, but there was just something about the vibe and melody of ‘Drunk In Love’ that kept haunting me, and made me really sit at home on the keyboard and started messing around with it. I came up with a few ideas, took it to the band and the rest was history.”
