Introducing NicX, a nomadic rapper who calls both Cleveland and Atlanta home. The 22-year old had a tumultuous upbringing in a broken family, growing up in Cleveland and going to high school in Atlanta before dropping out. In the years since, NicX has spent time in Cleveland, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Charlotte, drifting along and in the process making connections with some of the most talented individuals in the rap world: SheLovesMeechie, 6LACK, Jazz Cartier, and more.

The video for “Take It” is a symbolic journey through NicX’s on-the-go lifestyle. In the video, directed by Justin Dunnigan, NicX serves as the gang’s de facto leader, with his squad collecting the eyes of his enemies and presenting them to him. Why eyes? It ties back to the fact that the eyes are blacked out in NicX’s logo. As NicX puts it, “There’s still things I haven’t yet seen in the world.”

Or maybe it’s the fact that he’s seen a lot in 22 short years (his parents getting evicted, his older brother going in and out of jail for years, his friends getting arrested at 13 for gun possession), but has ultimately not figured out what he’s looking for. Either way, “Take It” lives on NicX’s aptly titled EP, Tryna Get Home, slated to be released on December 9.
