Vince Staples was one of the latest contenders on Funk Flex’s freestyle show at the Hot 97 studio. Titled “Freestyle #019,” the LBC rap mayor dropped a few bars off the top over Raekwon’s 1995 OB4CL track, “Ice Cream,” where he talks about gang life, police, M.I.A., and #blacklivesmatter.
Although Staples released his Prima Donna EP in August, he’s been getting a bucketload of free publicity this past week thanks to a viral video made by a conservative Christian woman, who goes on a rant about his “Norf Norf” lyrics. Staples reportedly called the woman “emotionally unstable,” but said she “has a right to her opinion.” Fair enough. Check out the original “Ice Cream” below.
