HipHopDX Premiere: Despite all of 2016’s ups and downs, 27-year-old Philadelphia MC Corey Lee has watched his music career start to blossom. After recently losing his 54-year-old father to a heart attack, he’s been using music to channel his grief in creative and healthy ways, which has resulted in a new song called “The Process.”

“I could’ve quit I could’ve given up,” Lee said in a statement. “Instead I used that loss to fuel my passion even more and transferred that into his music. ‘The process’ is a record that embodies the glory of your ups and downs. It’s also an ode to Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, who has been given the nickname ‘The Process’ and often referred to along with the phrase, ‘Trust the process.'”

Produced by Moonshine and DJ Mar, the song comes with a rapid, snare-heavy beat and a message about embracing all that life has to give, and sometimes take.

“I embrace the ups and the downs on this journey because there will be times when there are both,” he adds. “You have to learn how to handle them because it’s all apart of the process.”

As Lee continues to gain recognition, his support grows as well. He intends on releasing his debut album, A Shot In The Dark, in March 2017. Until then, check out the new joint above.
