Producer extraordinaire L’Orange and veteran lyricist Mr. Lif are back with the second single from their upcoming collaborative album The Life & Death of Scenery titled “A Palace In The Sky.” Revolving around an evil king ruled by nothing but greed, the narrative track warns of karma doing its job.
As L’Orange explained to Mass Appeal, “I see this as the end of the concept of the album. It’s the hubris of the ruling class ending up being his downfall. The album revolves around a system of society based on prohibiting art and culture and this track is the end of that reign. I view this song as a metaphorical ending to the society and I love the irony of his downfall being so romanticized and beautiful. It solidifies the point of the album–the culture and art that were trying to be banned occur naturally in arcs of life.”
Serving as the album closer on The Life & Death of Scenery, “A Palace In The Sky” delivers a menacing bass line and Lif’s incredibly descriptive storytelling. The album is due October 7 as a free download from Adult Swim.
L’Orange‘s last collaborative album was with Kool Keith in 2015.
