Like the Queen Latifah and Steve Martin-starred Bringing Down The House at the box-office, Master P simply will not go away. In fact, if left up to him, the whole world would be just one huge sound stage where everybody was screaming some crazy chant like “I’m bout it!” or “bounce wit me!” But for all of the negativity surrounding the name Percy Miller, one undeniable truth is that the man keeps it coming: Silkk the Shocker, Mia X, Lil’ Romeo and now Darwin “Choppa” Turner.

The New Orleans Choppa describes on his debut StraightFrom The N.O. is really no different than the one any other MC in the Superdome’s shadow has rapped about previously – only his is a bit more animated. “Shake
It Like That,” “Choppa Style” and “Aaahhh (Oh Yeah)” are busier than Time Square at lunch time – with all their irritating bells, whistles and scattered drums – but they induce more thoughts of nausea than
celebration. You’ll think your CD player is playing some cruel joke once you hear the equally unimpressive “I’mma Be Here” and “Keep It Poppin’.” Every song from Choppa REALLY only revolves around “oh yeah” blurts and partying ’til 4 in the morning.

Give P credit though: he’ll find a way to market the confident 21-year-old. The savvy businessman will go after the Nelly fan club leftovers or the Fabolous rejects. Either way this album will sell strictly off the public’s loyalty for the Nawlins sound. But if this record’s quality is truly indicate of what’s to be expected from Currency, Young Blaze and the other New No Limit freshmen in ’03, Master P had best start putting his money in some other ventures.
