Z-Ro Claims He Was Ambushed in Trae Tha Truth Fight: ‘I Did Not Expect No Shit Like That’

Z-Ro has shared his version of events that led to a physical altercation with his cousin and former ABN partner Trae Tha Truth.

Speaking to TMZ, the Houston-bred rapper claimed he was essentially ambushed by Trae and his crew on Saturday (August 27) during 50 Cent’s TYCOON weekend.

“[I was] minding my business and when I walked outside, it was like, I’m called over to the side of sprinter van and he was like, ‘Ay, when you get finished doin’ that, come take this walk with me right quick,” he recalled.

“I was like, ‘You talkin’ to me?’ I had to make sure he was talking to me ’cause I mean, I see you everywhere, you see me everywhere. So, when I walked over there, the only thing I saw after that was this [gestures to being punched in the face].

“‘I’m looking this way and then I see this and then you feel multiple fists and I guess, feet. So, when the video comes on, it’s me making sure, like, you know, I’m not gon’ go home looking like I just fought a football team. I don’t even live my life like that. I got too much positive shit goin’ on, I obviously didn’t expect no shit like that, really.

“I thought it was gon’ be where it’s a change and to be honest, I thought it was a conversation that needed to be had, I guess for the last decade … It would have been something that I would have appreciated, the conversation.”

Trae Tha Truth and Z-Ro’s relationship went sour sometime in 2012, but they refuse to call it beef. Z-Ro concluded: “Wasn’t ever no beef, it was no misunderstanding, it was just two people grew apart.”

As for the viral video that’s being circulated online, Z-Ro insisted that was only half of the story. “The beginning, where I was asked to come over, is not shown!” Z-Ro said in a statement to XXL.

“At the end of the day, I came to the event One Deep and to meet my artist Lolita Monreaux so we could support 50. I didn’t anticipate any altercation to take place especially since I’ve been asking that man for a 1 on 1 for charity for at least [two] years.”

In a 2020 interview with The Dennis Houston Podcast, Z-Ro admitted he missed his friendship with Trae. However, judging by their recent clash, the pair’s relationship still looks to be strained.

The incident took place during 50 Cent’s TYCOON weekend in Houston. Prior to the fight, the Get Rich Or Die Tryin‘ OG’s non-profit organization, the G-Unity Foundation, had teamed up with the University of Houston’s Student Government Association to present the city of Houston with a celebrity basketball game.

    1. Trae had Z-Ro back through all the petty beef and took care of his family while he was locked. Ro flipped on Trae over a hoodrat and he didn’t hold him down when he was banned from radio. After that blew over Ro got locked up with Trae lil cousin. So to say there was no beef is total BS.

      1. With all that said Z-Ro is the main reason people even know Trae’s name if it wasn’t for Z-Ro Trae wouldn’t have a platform to
stand on. Ro open the door for that man he gain an audience through Z-Ro.

        1. That’s false. They both started together in guerilla maab with some other people. They were also together for the album ABN.

    2. I seen the clip, it’s so cowardly to jump people. And one of the guys that jumped him acting all tough when it’s at least 3-4 on 1. That guys a freakin joke. I respect both artists but never got into their music. I hope karma gets those punks that jumped him. Fake tough guys. But at least no one got shot. I believe all rappers need security almost at all times. They’re targeted by other rappers having their cliques do their dirty work.

    3. This is a beef I hate to see. Both of them are dope. Z-Ro is one of my favourites out of Houston. Kills every track he’s on.

    4. The messed up part is that they’re cousins man….well, beef is beef, and it’s up to them to talk or keep going like this….I don’t know what the situation is that caused this
