Young Thug’s Rise To Fame & Fight For Freedom To Be Turned Into Documentary + Podcast Series

While much is still to be figured out regarding Young Thug and YSL’s RICO case, the content machine is already starting to churn.

According to Variety, Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions and Rolling Stone Films are developing a docuseries and accompanying podcast detailing the rise and potential fall of Young Thug and his YSL empire.

Both projects are reportedly still in the early stages with no title and directors on board yet. The docuseries will focus on the “Atlanta Hip Hop boom,” as well as the ongoing RICO case that has ensnared Young Thug, Gunna and 26 other members of their Young Slime Life collective.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the talented team at Jigsaw to tell this ambitious and important story about one of the most compelling and controversial music scenes of the moment,” Rolling Stone CEO Gus Wenner said in a statement.

Young Thug remains behind bars after a Fulton County judge denied him bond in June, declaring him a “flight risk” and “danger to the community.” The 30-year-old faces one count of conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and one count of participation in criminal street gang activity, in addition to seven felonies stemming from drugs and weapons seized by police at his home.

Gunna, who has also been charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act, suffered a similar fate earlier this week when a judge denied his bond request for a second time, citing concerns over witness tampering.

Both rappers have been accused by prosecutors of being high-ranking members in the YSL collective, an alleged “criminal street gang” behind a series of murders, armed robberies and other violent crimes in Atlanta since 2012.

Rolling Stone is no stranger to backing film projects. They teamed with Showtime in 2021 for the unauthorized three-part doc titled Supervillain profiling the notorious rise of 6ix9ine.

    1. Boy, labels know how to make money when an artist is down and out. Guess it’s part of the 360 deal

    2. I see you want freedom of a criminal and not freedom of speech. Thx for the censorship again, you n@z! motherfuckers.

    3. What an absolute joke black folks are to accept this trash as their culture – what a pathetic bunch of losers we truly are. A worldwide joke that we’ve gone from public enemy and bdp to this no talent cock smoker.

    4. If young thug truly was as popular as his streaming numbers and PR would suggest this site and others would be overwhelmed with Fred thug comments and similar posts. It’s so obvious internet is being used by rich people to buy out the game with lovers so the real ones are never seen in the light of day
