Young Thug proved he’s really a rap nerd at heart during his guest appearance on Adin Ross’ Kick channel, revealing some of his favorite artists and albums of all time.
Sitting down with the streaming star on Tuesday (September 30), the Atlanta native reeled off his top five rappers dead or alive — and his list might surprise you.
“2Pac, Drake… Wale. It’s a tie between Wale and Big Sean, so I’ma combine them into one. Kanye West and… Lil Wayne,” he said, before expanding on his love for Folarin and Sean Don: “Wale and Big Sean are slept-on. They’re nuts.”
As for his top five albums, Thugger listed his own project So Much Fun along with JAY-Z‘s The Black Album, Drake’s Take Care and 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me.
Surprisingly, Thug also ranked Gunna‘s DS4Ever as one of his top albums of all time, despite his very public falling out with his former collaborator and signee.
Asked if he thinks a reonconciliation is possible between himself and Gunna, whose plea deal in the YSL RICO case led to the fracturing of their once-tight relationship, Thug said: “I don’t know. As of right now, I don’t think it could happen.”
The stream also saw King Slime weigh in on the bitter rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, which remains a hot-button topic in the world of hip-hop, more than a year after their long-simmering beef exploded into an all-out battle.
“Who’s the best? I gotta say Drake,” Thug answered. “He just did more, he put more people on. Not saying Kendrick didn’t put nobody on, but Drake just did more and he’s got more numbers. Numbers-wise, statistically, impact on the culture, impact on the world, [Drake comes out on top].”
Thug did, however, heap high praise on Kendrick, saying: “Kendrick Lamar has had a hell of an impact, he’s for sure number one, ever in life to come out of L.A. Nobody in L.A. could never ever ever be bigger than him. He’s the G.O.A.T. of the whole West Coast.”
He then interjected: “Well, I don’t know. I’ll probably say Nipsey [Hussle]. I like Nipsey better, but numbers-wise, Kendrick Lamar beats him.”
Young Thug is fresh off the release of his fourth album UY Scuti, his first since being released from jail last October.
The star-studded project, which boasts appearances from the likes of Future, Travis Scott, Cardi B, 21 Savage and Lil Baby, is projected to debut at number seven on the Billboard 200 with around 48,000 first-week units, according to Hits Daily Double.
