Yasiin Bey Backs Down On Guarantee To Battle Any Rapper

Last week Yasiin Bey along with Black Thought and King Los, presumably in response to Drake and Meek Mill’s battle currently still going on, challenged any emcee to get bars from him in a rap bout started by anyone about it.

Lupe Fiasco was about it and responded to the artist formerly known as Mos Def and even gave fans a public preview via his Instagram. Now it seems Yasiin Bey has backed down and doesn’t really want to put the effort into an ongoing feud with any emcee.

According to audio from Ferrari Sheppard’s A Country Called Earth’s Soundcloud account, Bey is heard mocking his previous statements: “Spending your time writing battle raps… I’d rather be filing paperwork at the post office. That shit does not sound like fun.” He would later clarify what he meant and denounce the audio as he believed what he was saying was private. It did seem however that he was backing down from his original stance on the matter.

“It was a private opinion made public,” he said. “Without my knowledge or permission or consent. I stand by my statement, but at the same time, I’m not trying to arrange some sort of exhibition of that reality, whatever.”

Hear the audio of Yasiin Bey denouncing his previous statements on battling other rappers below:

    1. Coward. Lupe would kill you Mos!!!! The tag team of Quinten Miller and Aubrey Graham might even present problems for you.

      1. I feel bad for you if you think Drake runs shit. There’s actually a couple decent new rappers. I’m not sure what you think drake has to do with Hip-Hop, but i’ll tell you; it’s nothing.

    2. Sounds about right…. You know some other things Mos doesn’t find fun?

Paying child support, taxes and birth control.

    3. Its not a waste of time mos,u was about to make a big mark on hip hop, battlerap community and for charity, guess lupe saw that

    4. “It bothers me when the gods get to actin like the broads” smh, damn mos. And why the hell is he talking like he never had an English class in his life?

    5. So in other words your having female dog emotions because another lyrical rapper would give you that work……got it thanks for clearing that up Mos

    6. Lucy i mean Lupe couldnt finish a tribe verse or handle Bill o Reilly mos just didn’t want to waste hos time on the fool

      1. U my friend must not know your hip hop*lupe speaks on real life issues & also can burn down a booth*quiet*you probably prefer your music to be dumbed down*

    7. Im gonna say it*fuck black star*kweli a herb for dickriding macklemore who has seemingly disappeared*telling me to my face back in 03 at the sprite liquid mix tour tht a bs2 album was coming*mos is a herb now for talking shit then retreating when a true MC/hip hop representative steps to the plate*my favorite emcee alive is lupe*because the boyy don’t play*keep on with your wack stand up routine*your a joke*its one thing for these young bulls to treat (HER)like shit but come on*hall of famers too?smh*long live the 80s & 90s

    8. I hate when rappers do this shit, same with Meek challenging Cassidy. These “ain’t-bout-shit” rappers always lookin for a come up nowadays. I miss the ’90’s

    9. Lupe couldn’t rake mos on his best day but mis definitely should not have backed down whether or not that video was leaked with his permission or without just bad business. Now everybody that ever hated him has a reason to do so even though those same idiots know for a fact that Lupe Fiasco could never touch him. Just not a good look

      1. I love Mos… But if we’re talking lyrics & wordplay there aren’t many that can touch Lupe on his worst day

      2. I loved BlackStarr and that was and still is Mos Def’s best work, and I do like Mos def However at this point in their Career Lupe Fiasco would work Mos def anyways. and he knew it, I’m sure he wasn’t expecting Lupe to Battle him cause his not know as a battle rapper so it more than Likely caught him off guard. And King Los?? really I haven’t heard an thing that makes me snap my figures in props yet.

    10. I was looking forward to this amidst a current culture with nothing but posers and weak silly looking motherfuckers. Hip hop was at its best between ’96-’04.

    11. Very disappointed in you dude, I f you aren’t trying to battle anyone, Then don’t be opening your mouth bout challenging anyone. smh

    12. Private opinion made public? You were talking into a camera phone dude. Plus you added details about money for charity. I love MOS but cmon son. Gonna back down to Lupe? FOH

    13. Nigga bit off more than he could chew with Lu. He did this a few years ago too though, remember him standing in front of the theater high as shit, saying “I’ll battle anyone…Jay-Z, Eminem, Andre 3000, “I’m taking it back to Brooklyn”. He’s a dope MC, but he’s been more bark than bite the past few years. I think he’s one of them dudes that gets inspired for five minutes, then gets depressed again and regrets what he said.
