Wyclef Jean Shares Lessons Learned From Chris Lighty

Hip Hop is still in mourning the death of Chris Lighty. Wyclef Jean recently opened up to Montreality during an interview in Canada, recalling the lessons he gleaned from the late businessman and the last time he spoke with him.

“I mean, I was at the funeral for Chris Lighty. Who don’t run into Chris Lighty and feel his energy and his support?” said Clef. “What did I get out of Chris Lighty? The most important thing is you’re not supposed to settle for less, and the only thing you can’t do is what you can’t dream. Anything you could dream, you could make a reality. That’s some of the stuff that I learned from Chris Lighty.”

The Fugees member said that the last conversation he had with Lighty was at his company Primary Wave, where he was trying to get 50 Cent to come down to visit Haiti. He also explained why he didn’t talk with Lauryn Hill at the funeral, stating that there was so much commotion that it was difficult to cross paths.

“At the funeral, there was just so many people. I was in the section sitting next to Missy [Elliott], Lyor Cohen… It was so many people that it was hard for everybody to intertwine at once,” he said.

    1. Wyclef don’t like niggas. Back in ’96, I tried to talk to him after a show and he blew me the fuck off. So I told him to kneel down and lick on deeeez nuutz and he came back, so I ran.
