Treach Speaks On The Possibility Of An Openly Gay Rapper

During a newly-published interview with Vlad TV, Treach of Naughty By Nature offered his thoughts on the possibility of an openly gay rapper in Hip Hop. When asked if such a rapper could come out as being gay and not receive criticism, the New Jersey rapper stated that he couldn’t give a yes or no answer, but did offer a “maybe.”

He also referenced Michael Sam, one of college football and the NFL’s first openly gay players, when questioned about homosexuality and Hip Hop.

“I mean, in this day and age it’s—I can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ It all depends on—Like you’ll never think it would be somebody in professional football that can come out and let it be known of their lifestyle like that. And then still be accepted. So, like I said, it’s all [foreseen]. The future unfolds many things. Maybe,” Treach said.

Treach was later questioned about remarks fellow rapper Lord Jamar made about there being no place for gays in Hip Hop.

“I mean, some people say it don’t have no place in society,” he said. “But then it’s like how can you say that? Me, I live my life the way I do. And I let God judge anybody else the way they do it. I look at people as people first. You know what I mean? I don’t care what they do on they own time or whatever else. I have friends, people I grew up with, colleagues, work. I don’t care. If they’re gay that’s their business. They some of the hardest workers I know. And some of the most loyal that I see. That I do business with. So, it’s like people are people. What you do on your own time that’s that. For anybody to judge, don’t cast the first stone. That’s what I say.”

During an interview with XXL magazine late last year, Lord Jamar further commented on his thoughts about gays in Hip Hop.

“Am I walking in the street and trying to beat your ass? No,” Lord Jamar said last November. “But am I trying to stop you from promoting that type of message within what I feel is my culture? Yes. And I have the right to do that. Because where do we draw the line? It’s bad enough with all the misogyny that’s in Hip Hop now. I got to hear about dudes fucking girls and this and that. Now I got to hear about two guys sucking each other off? ‘Cause that’s where it’s going to go.”

    4. if a homo male rapper came out everyone would be silenced. cuz in this culture no way you can call a gay person a “faggot” and get away with it. whoever attacks taht man would have his career wrecked. straight people call each other faggots all the time same way white boys call each other nigga, but when a fag or a black person walks in the room it all goes silent
