Timbaland has opened up about his past drug addiction, saying that an out-of-body experience helped him kick his dependence.
In an interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game on Sunday (February 4), the super-producer detailed his struggles with prescription pill addiction and how he eventually triumphed over substance abuse.

“I was addicted to drugs… heavy. Oxycontin,” he told hosts Gillie Da Kid and Wallo before explaining that his addiction stemmed from a dentist prescribing him Vicodin for tooth pain.
“That Vicodin made me feel like Superman! I needed it more. And I used to lie that my teeth was still hurting,” he added.

Timbo credited faith with helping him kick his Oxy habit, saying: “God showed myself getting out of my body, like an out-of-body experience. I saw myself dead on the bed out of my body … He just weaned me off.”

Timbaland has spoken about his addiction plenty of times in the past. In 2023, he credited Drake and JAY-Z for seeing him through the darkest times.
The super-producer stopped by Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe last May and detailed how the two rap superstars helped him break through the throes of his addiction, thanks to them being unafraid to “check” him when things got scary.
“JAY-Z is a prophet,” Timbo said. “God sent him. I ain’t never seen nobody like him. Hov actually raised me, and he don’t even know it. He raised me in the music business. He was so prolific, so wise beyond his age, that I was just amazed at just watching him. That’s why I had a different bond with Jay when it comes to my music. We was rewriting the Bible, in a way.”
He continued: “Even Drake told me. That’s why I’m like, these guys are special to the world. Now, once they give you the information, it’s up to you to use it. I didn’t come out until the darkness, man, and that’s why I say, it’s all love with these guys. They helped me during my darkest moment.”

The “Cry Me a River” previously revealed that he overdosed back in 2017. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said: “All I can tell you is that there was a light…I woke up trying to catch my breath like I was underwater. But through that whole thing I saw life — I saw where I would be if I don’t change, and where I could be if I did.”
