The Weeknd Equals Michael Jackson’s Billboard Chart Record

The Weeknd has tied Michael Jackson’s longstanding Billboard chart record of being the only artist to have multiple No. 1 hits from numerous albums.

According to Chart Data, both artists are the only individuals in Hot 100 history to achieve such a feat. Michael Jackson garnered multiple No. 1 hits on albums such as 1979’s Off The Wall, 1982’s Thriller, and 1987’s Bad, according to Billboard. Meanwhile, The Weeknd garnered his No. 1 hit records from 2015’s Beauty Behind The Madness, 2016’s Starboy, and 2020’s After Hours, according to Billboard.

The Weeknd scored his seventh No. 1 hit alongside singer Ariana Grande when their 2016 duet “Die For You” jumped to the top of the Hot 100 list on Monday (March 6), according to Chart Data.

Check out the announcement from Chart Data below on Twitter:

Earlier this year, according to Chart Data, The Weeknd broke the all-time record for most monthly global listeners among all artists in Spotify history.

With 94.734 million monthly listeners, The Weeknd ousted Ed Sheeran who previously had the record with 82.40 million. Other names in the top five include Justin Bieber (81.43m), Taylor Swift (81.21m) and Ariana Grande (77.18m).

The Weeknd also made Billboard chart history with the release of 2022’s Dawn FM. In January of 2022, Billboard tweeted that the Weeknd had 24 songs on the Global 200 chart, six of them coming from the album, including “Sacrifice,” “Take My Breath,” “Gasoline,” “Out of Time,” “Is There Someone Else?” and “How Do I Make You Love Me?.”

The accomplishment makes the Canadian singer the first male artist to have 24 songs on the Global 200 simultaneously. Only Kanye West and Drake trail him with 23 and 22, respectively.

Additionally, The Weeknd also accomplished the very-rare feat of having two albums chart on the Top 10 of the Billboard 200Dawn FM had the No. 2 spot while The Weeknd’s second greatest hits album, 2020’s The Highlights, sat at No. 6 on the 200 chart.

    1. the entire world population was half what it is now when Thriller was released.
also factor in how much more accessible music is and that these numbers are based
on streams (imagine if MJ’s stats were based on how many times people replayed
his hits on various forms of media plus radio plus record sales)

    3. Sorry but breaking the records of past musicians doesn’t mean much today. Beyonce has more Grammy awards than Stevie Wonder lol. They are dying to give Grammy’s to Taylor Swift and Billy Aylish or someone who whispers her songs. Taylor Swift is breaking records on a daily basis with her average voice and music. You expect us to take these new records seriously ?? Such low standards compared to what the music scene was before.

    4. For some reason it just ain’t the same. Mj brought another level which isn’t matched by this guy…in my opinion.
