The Weeknd continues his record-breaking reign now claiming another Spotify record that establishes him by far one of the most successful artists of all time.
According to Chart Data, the Canadian superstar (real name Abel Tesfaye) has broken the all-time record for most monthly global listeners among all artists in Spotify history.

With 94.734 million monthly listeners, The Weeknd overtakes Ed Sheeran who previously had the record with 82.40 million. Other names in the top five include Justin Bieber (81.43m), Taylor Swift (81.21m) and Ariana Grande (77.18m).
The “Starboy” hitmaker hasn’t shared a statement about the feat, but he did retweet Pop Crave‘s tweet about the achievement.

The news comes just a couple of weeks after The Weeknd’s 2019 smash hit “Blinding Lights” became Spotify’s most streamed song of all time.
Beating out Ed Sheeran once again, “Blinding Lights” surpassed the British singer’s “Shape of You” to become the No. 1 streamed song in the streaming platform’s history. The Weeknd himself also ended 2022 as one of Spotify’s most-streamed artists of the year.

Taken from The Weeknd’s fourth studio album, After Hours, “Blinding Lights” has been breaking records left, right and center ever since its release just over three years ago, including being the fastest song in history to reach 2.5 billion Spotify streams.
Not stopping at there, though. Another of The Weeknd’s hits made headlines last month when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the Canadian singer a diamond plaque for his 2015 single “Can’t Feel My Face” which has now moved over 10 million units.
Retweeting a tweet from Buzzing Pop, The Weeknd also acknowledged another new achievement after becoming the third artist overall and first Black artist in Spotify history to have 10 songs each with over one billion streams.
Last weekend, Abel released a new horror movie-inspired music video for “Is There Someone Else?” to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his most recent album, Dawn FM.
