Hip hop purists and old school fans have one more reason to celebrate today. After making history in hip hop’s early years, Roxanne Shante` and MC Shan are set to reform the legendary Juice Crew.

Shante` and Shan are hoping to bring the name and legacy back with a fresh crop of talented emcees that aren’t afraid to stray from today’s music norms.

“We can make it any ole’ crew,”MC Shan says. “But we want to make it something people know so it can carry on the legacy of the original crew.” Shan also emphasizes, “The new Juice Crew will be something different; not the ‘I slang drugs, I got jewelry’ rhymes; it’ll be more talented artists.”

The original crew consisted of Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Craig G., Kool G. Rap, Master Ace, Marley Marl, Shan and Shante`. The group got a big push from NYC DJ Mr. Magic in the mid 80’s.

The crew is perhaps best remembered for the song The Bridge which began one of hip hop’s most well known battles with KRS-ONE’s Boogie Down Productions.

Emcees interested in getting down with the new Juice Crew should submit their one or two song demos to thejuicecrew@hotmail.com. All demos will be reviewed by “seasoned” industry professionals including MC Shan and Roxanne Shante’.
