Talib Kweli Denies Res’ Sexual Harassment Claims — & Provides Receipts

Former Talib Kweli collaborator Res went on a Twitter tirade on Friday (June 1) making several accusations toward the Black Star MC, including sexual harassment.

Kweli’s manager and Javotti Media partner Donna Dragotta hit Twitter to speak on Kweli’s behalf.

“I categorically deny Res statements,” Dragotta wrote. “After numerous attempts to amicably and fairly settle a matter between them, Talib was forced to bring a lawsuit against Res for money owed to him pursuant to a contractual Agreement.”

“In reply, Res made false claims of sexual harassment against Talib which we’re wholly without merit and we’re dismissed by the Court.”

During her tweet marathon, Res accused the Radio Silence rapper of attempting to have sex with multiple women in order to advance their careers.

In an email statement to HipHopDX, Sa’tori Ananda — Pharoahe Monch’s manager and Kweli’s longtime business associate — spoke up

“I have known/done business with Talib for over 12 years,” Ananda wrote. “In an industry where nothing is kept secret and everyone knows everyone, I have never heard of Talib using his position of power to try to get sexual favors from women in exchange for career promises.

“I have worked with quite a few woman who worked closely with him as well. Kweli is the type of person who shares his opportunities with others even women he may have romantically been involved with in the past.”

Kweli’s shared an old email exchange from 2014 admitting he tried to kiss her once when they were in a hot tub together in Puerto Rico but he says it stopped there. He also revealed court docs stating Res’ sexual harassment case was dismissed last year.

Res appeared on Kweli’s very first solo album, 2002’s Quality, and was part of the group Idle Worship alongside Kweli and Graph Nobel. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]

      1. of course they do… they not perfect but still trying to put forth a positive message.. dont be so quick to judge tho

    1. I like Kweli’s music but he’s such an idiot on Twitter I don’t follow his new music. The fact that he’s a low key creep doesn’t surprise me. The idle warship song from the MWTIF soundtrack was dope though, I didn’t check the album.

      1. I saw him harass a woman on Twitter named Liz Finnegan. He went off on her for not agreeing with his brand of feminism. She went to bed and woke up 8 hours later. Dude was still going on.

People say Trump is bad with the Tweets but Talib needs some help.

        1. I don’t know why I find this funny. Tweet for 8 hours ? LMAO Talib is crazy

    2. This #metoo is out of hand. Women using it as a secret weapon to blackmail men to get what they want. If you ever hit on a woman now it can be used against you 10 years later, smh

    3. He’s one of the most overrated “lyricists” of all time. Fine, he’s conscious. That doesn’t make up for having weak rhymes, a terrible flow, and zero versatility. He dropped “Manifesto” during the late nineties when backpackers were desperate to cling to anything and people acted like it was way better than it was. All those soundbombing/lyricists lounge rappers were overrated, because there was an influx of suburban kids getting into rap at the time that had no idea how to judge anything, they just went along with whatever the backpacker trends were, and it went hand in hand with the rise of Internet. I used to be the only real hiphop bred dude on webtv in 1996 arguing with all you nerds that hated Nas and Mobb Deep and loved Talib Kweli and Lootpack lol. Peace.

      1. You are a moron. Over rated? Under rated. And enough of this conscious label. He is just not a typical moron rapping

        1. What would you rather listen to, a moron with talent or a semi-smart dude with no talent? Niether. Hold this L? That’s what your mother said when she passed me the blunt while she was toppin me off.

      2. Real talk Talib has been mediocre since the jump, he’s just another fake ass pseudo-conscious bigot who is so toxic and mediocre no muthafuckas in Hip Hop feature him on albums minus a handful.

    4. They will try and fuc over the men you admire, who speak up against injustice and just make us look good why? Coz bitches are now using feminist bitchass movements against strong men on some twisted revenge shit. Oh this dude made me look bad, ama scream sexual harassment on his ass. SMH!

    5. Talib Kweli has always been toxic bigoted racist misogynistic piece of shit so why would this shock anyone.

      1. Facts though I’ve heard a lot of shit about this dude over the years. Shawty is human too BUT where there’s smoke there’s fire… I’m curious as to why they blocked out the rest of the email thread like how does one set of replies tell the whole story?

    6. Her accusations were dropped in court. Res should shut up and fade like the deadbeat that she is. The movement that took down Harvey Weinstein became this? This is a joke.

    7. It’s funny how he denies being a bad guy and then confesses to trying to cheat on his wife.
It’s also hilarious how he’s rapping / warning us about the US government every second song but uses a gmail account…that is google owned and US government monitored daily 😀

    8. Let’s be real, the point of the #metoo movement is to make sure all men can be threatened and publicly shamed anytime they disagree with a woman. It’s basically a loaded gun only women can use against men. Oh you don’t like the business contract you signed? Just say you were “raped” or “sexually assaulted”!

    9. If Kweli tried planting a kiss on his Artist (self-admitted via email), then that is a clear case of work place harassment, even if it was in a hot tub. And the fact that he tried to eat where he shits, shows a breakdown of socially acceptable personal character. This is the first time i have seen Kweli backed into a corner, needing help to defend himself. Hence, his use of female business associates trying to diffuse his actions. Clear double standard with him, especially when he has condemned others for similar accusations.
