Playboi Carti has made his long-awaited return to music by releasing a new song called “2024,” and it’s co-produced by none other than Kanye West.

The Atlanta rapper dropped the track exclusively on his YouTube channel on Thursday night (December 14), marking his first solo release in over two years.

The bouncy, bass-distorted song also features production from ojivolta and earlonthebeat, and finds Carti adopting both his signature “baby voice” and a deeper vocal cadence.

Kanye makes a cameo appearance in the accompanying music video, along with A$AP Nast and others. Ye is seen wearing the black KKK mask he wore at his Vultures “rave” in Miami earlier this week, suggesting it filmed very recently.

Shortly after its release, Playboi Carti took to his Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of a DM from Drake praising the song, despite the 6 God’s prior issues with Kanye.

“2024 is amazing,” Drizzy wrote in his direct message after a previous conversation about arranging a phone call.

Playboi Carti has been teasing his eagerly anticipated new album, potentially titled I Am Music, in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, Carti posted a graphic promoting the project on social media, which was later reposted by Pharrell who wrote: “PREPARE.”

While further details remain scarce, Akademiks has claimed that the album will be released in January 2024. He also called it “the greatest thing you ever heard.”

Kanye West featured on and executive produced Carti’s last album Whole Lotta Red, which was released on December 25, 2020 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 100,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

Carti repaid the favor on Kanye’s 2021 LP Donda, appearing on “Off the Grid” and “Junya.”

During an interview with Kid Cudi for Interview Magazine that same year, Playboi Carti spoke about his love for Kanye West, who he called “the OG.”

“Kanye is the OG. He opened my eyes to some shit. When I got around him, I realized why I love him so much. You get what I’m saying? When I get around you, I realize why I love you so much,” he told Cudi.

“I even appreciate Ye for introducing me and you. Being able to talk to somebody who understands what I’m saying, I got that from his whole camp. I felt that energy from everybody he deals with. I didn’t feel like a loner.”

He added: “The world I’m trying to build, he already got it going on. Ye is on this king vamp shit. Cudi is on this king vamp shit. Y’all already on that.”
