NBA YoungBoy Wants To Quit Music: 'It Brings Too Many Problems'

NBA YoungBoy was arrested in March following a dramatic foot pursuit involving the Los Angeles Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other law enforcement agencies.

The chart-topping rapper was extradited to his home state of Louisiana where he sat behind bars for seven months on charges of possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing a firearm not registered to him. Now out of jail, YoungBoy is speaking out about everything he’s endured over the past few years.

During a Clubhouse conversation with Akademiks on Tuesday (November 30), YoungBoy admitted he was tired of the rap thing and has been for quite some time.

“I lost love for music and it brings too many problems,” he said. “I been waiting to stop making music for about one and a half years.”

Despite YoungBoy’s hint at retirement, he also announced he has new music coming Friday (December 3).

At one point during the hours-long conversation, Akademiks said, “You about to drop something new?” to which YoungBoy replied, “Friday. I’m gonna drop Friday. I’m gonna drop a video tomorrow though.”

NBA YoungBoy has three studio albums under his belt, including 2020’s Top and Sincerely, Kentrell. Both albums debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while the former has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

YoungBoy also joined 2Pac and Lil Wayne as the third rapper in rap history to earn a No. 1 album while incarcerated. The album, which contained zero features, dropped to No. 4 in its second week, with over 71,000 units earned. It also knocked Drake’s Certified Lover Boy out of the top spot — at least momentarily.

Lazy promo. These new age rappers aren’t very smart to hide that fact.

Probably hasn’t fulfilled contract requirements, abundance of kids means he probably can’t do it now, but maybe a chance to step away and promote current artists’ with the new album coming out. Might just be temporary burnout.
