MTV Says That Kanye West’s “Monster” Video NOT Banned, Waiting On Edits

Kanye has had his fair share of trouble with the videos from his latest platinum album. First his “All Of The Lights” video was accused of stealing themes, then it was temporarily taken off the air for apparently causing seizures. Now it turns out that MTV banned his controversial video for his posse cut “Monster.”

The video hit the Internet a couple months ago and never made it onto television. The leak was an unfinished version, so the assumption was the video would be on TV when it was finished and officially released. Due to the depiction of women in the video, that will not be happening. A petition to ban the video from Change.org was circulated and eventually signed by MTV.

“The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women,” said Melinda Tankard Reist, one of the campaign originators. “Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamorise misogyny and brutalise women. Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo.”

UPDATE: A spokesperson for MTV released the following statement: “MTV has not banned Kaye West’s ‘Monster’ video. We have been in constant communication with the label regarding this matter. However, we are still awaiting the edits we requested in order for the video to be suitable for broadcast.”

    1. THIS IS COMPLETE BS! ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT IN THE NAME OF ART WE CAN MAKE BOOKS THAT TELL STORIES OF THE SAME, WATCH MAKE AND CREATE MOVIES OF THE SAME, RAP SING HUM WHISTLES WORDS OF THE SAME , BUT BAN A MUSIC VIDEO?!?! HELL PLAY THE VIDEO AT RESPONSIBLE TIMES IF THATS YOUR ARGUMENT …. KIDS ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND WILL GO FIND IT NOW THAT YOU SAID NO… MTV IS FULL OF CRAP! AND SO IS THE IDEA THAT THIS VIDEO IS THE WORST THING YOUR CHILD WILL ABSORB THIS WEEK!!! GET REAL! I FEEL MORE VIOLATED JUST LISTENING TO 360 PLAYERS TALK ONLINE WHILE PLAYING VIDEO GAMES!

      1. thank you, i was gonna say the same thing. this video is not as bad as MTV makes it out to be.

    2. the banning of stuff like this has to start somewhere. kanye needs to grow the fuck up. he is super talented, but he acts like a child. he makes intellectual and deep rap, but lots of it is about pointless shit. he dresses and acts like a clown. he is not making art in his videos, especially this one. i do enjoy his music though.

      1. HATE HATE HATE HATE HATER!!!

YOU’VE JUST BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE HATER’S HALL OF HATE!

YOU MUST BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!

    3. Wow, so sick of feminist bitches ruining shit for everyone. These skirts need to grow the fuck up, and let art be art.

    4. these dumb bitches is going after kanye cuz he use to good videos but now he is doing one that looks as nasty as the others.

      1. movies get censored all the time and banned like when the catholics tried to ban the da vinci code and may or may not have succeeded somewhere… mtv doesnt even play music idk why people care

    5. what about kesha and jersey shore and teen mom?

those shows (& kesha) show that women are stupid as bricks. why aren’t they banned?

    6. i thought the shit was really creative, like a now and days thriller. but you know somebody has to be looking for controversy and discriminaton. next time mtv stereotypes men, i want it to be pulled!! and this can continue for children, race, religion. dont be intolerent now.

    7. mtv is a young/naive person indoctrination machine that aint worth shit.
      fuck the mainstream media.
and kanye wanted to get banned… publicity whore.

    8. If anything should be banned right now it should be the price of fucking gas…this is the same channel that aires “16 and Pregnant” right?? #Jussayin
