Metro Boomin can add another tally in his win column after it has been announced he’ll be contributing new music to the upcoming film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The news was revealed on Tuesday (December 13) when the official movie trailer was released. Metro shared it on his Instagram page, along with a graphic of himself dressed in a Black Spider-Man suit, complete with his trademark bandana.

The multi-platinum producer didn’t offer any details about his involvement with the film, but after the trailer premiered, co-writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller hosted a YouTube Premium after-party, where they revealed Metro will be creating the theme song for Across The Spider-Verse.

The film is a sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and continues the story of Miles Morales, the half-Black, half-Latino teenager who’s taken up the mantle of the famous web-slinger.

As previewed in the trailer, Morales will come face to face with even more versions of Spider-Man across the multiverse of alternate universes. Fans will get to witness the outcome of this journey on June 2, 2023.

All eyes will be on Metro Boomin to see what he cooks up for the movie, especially after the theme song of the first film, “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee was certified diamond in 2021 and became the joint highest-certified single in RIAA history last month.

However, Metro will no doubt feel right at home making music for a superhero movie following the release of his latest album Heroes & Villains. As the title suggests, the project was heavily inspired by superheroes and villains, with its star-studded supporting cast being unveiled via a series of comic book covers.

Heroes & Villains is proving to be a blockbuster affair having debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Metro fended off competition from Taylor Swift’s Midnights for the top spot, out-selling the pop juggernaut by over 40,000 units.

The heavyweight project — which featured Future, Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, 21 Savage, The Weeknd and more — was accompanied by a slice of cinema itself, with Metro dropping the Heroes & Villains short film prior to its December 2 release.
