Meek Mill Says ‘Flamerz 5’ Won’t Be On Streaming Due To Low Payouts

Meek Mill is gearing up to unleash his Flamerz 5 project next week, but fans shouldn’t expect the mixtape to land on any major streaming service.

Opting to go the independent route, the Philly rapper feels artists are being exploited by streaming services and the major label system so his music will be available elsewhere. He hasn’t explained exactly where Flamerz 5 will live but has teased the idea of SoundCloud, MyMixtapez, Audiomack or DatPiff.

“When a label gave me a plaque I thought they was tryna trick me lol … show me the financials that my art made … that other shit a mental trick … give me a plaque with how much my song made and how much I got paid … I’m shying away from that whole system it’s not for us!

“I don’t want FLAMERZ 5 on no streaming service …. This strictly underground music … billboard can’t rate it …. Just rate the music ….I’d bet you a million I can make the UnitedStates/world play it with one upload button .. been doing it since MySpace lol”

Meek went on to claim he was only making about a dollar for every 1,000 streams and he’d rather rely on his street business intuition while selling his projects on platforms like CashApp.

Ultimately, it’s not all about a dollar sign for the Dreamchasers boss who wants to pay it forward to the next generation, explaining he learnt life lessons by listening to the likes of Lil Wayne, 2Pac, Rick Ross, Jeezy, T.I., 50 Cent and more while growing up.

“I learned ‘life guidelines’ thru jay and kiss lil wayne Ross Tupac x nas Jeezy ti 50 cent..biggie etc…. Got me thru good and bad times … that’s worth more than 1$ for every spin,” he tweeted.

Meek Mill kickstarted his Flamerz series back in 2008, which was pivotal in helping the rapper gain a buzz in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The last installment arrived in March 2010 and featured appearances from Black Thought, Freeway, Gillie Da Kid and more.

Meek teased the opening track on Twitter earlier this week. The song is produced by Dream Chasers’ Nick Papz and samples Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” made famous by the 1982 film Rocky III (which was set in Philly). Look for Flamerz 5 to arrive on an alternative platform to be determined on November 21.

Meek will also be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his Dreams and Nightmares album with a homecoming concert at Wells Fargo Center on November 26.

    1. ehhh, call me a pessimist, but I dont think Meek is the kind of artist that will exactly have people lined up to actually PAY for his music. I hand it to anyone trying to do what they can to be more independent- whether buying vinyl or CDs, even tapes, merch, going to shows, “experiences” like meet + greets, etc.. and I hope I’m wrong, but I dont think dude has dedicated fans like that. Mad at the system? You shoulda stayed independent from the getgo, instead of signing your “label” to an imprint thats signed to a major. Too many hands in the pot always means your cut will be less.

You can’t even read and you’re trying to go at mathematics, “there’s levels to this shit”, lol

    2. No one getting paid off rap except last name execs. Who are bent in destroying our culture. So the music sucks there’s no money in it and ye told us who fault that is. Better get a flak jacket if you’re too cool to cut a check

    3. I think thats a brilliant move. Streaming is a rip off to the artists. He can charge $1 per download and probably make a million.

But its funny looking ar comments from rap fans who havent accomplished a thing in hip hop criticize Meek like he’s an idiot. Anyone eho knows, knows the flamers series is ehar made his career. Im from PA and Meek was doing $10k shows off of thar. Way before Rick Ross or T.I. came into the picture.

And dont front. If you took thrme time to type your nane abd email in order to comment. So you care but what did. YOU do in hip hop
