Beyonce’s premiere of her visual album Lemonade on HBO this past weekend has caused some tough criticism from Mail Online’s editor-at-large, Piers Morgan, who labeled Beyonce a “militant activist.” In an exclusive interview with Watch Loud, the Houston singer’s father, Mathew Knowles, defends his daughter against the British journalist’s criticism.
“We’ve been in this business for 25 years now and in 25 years the media has changed drastically,” Mathew Knowles says. “Twenty five years ago, there was journalists. They took journalistic approach. It was important to them that the information that they wrote was accurate, it was truthful and that they had done research. Today, that’s a different story. We can’t say that with pride.”
In an essay Morgan wrote for Daily Mail titled, “Jay-Z’s not the only one who needs to be nervous about Beyonce, the born-again-black woman with a political mission,” he challenges Bey’s past position on race and politics.
“Now, it seems to be the complete opposite,” Piers writes in his controversial column. “The new Beyonce wants to be seen as a black woman political activist first and foremost, entertainer and musician second.”
He also questioned the Lemonade singer including the mother’s of Mike Brown and Trayvon Martin in her video, accusing her of exploitation.
However, Mathew Knowles doesn’t blame today’s journalists for abandoning journalism ethics and standards since it’s ultimately all about advertising dollars and the bottom line.
“It’s about impact,” Mathew Knowles continues. “It’s about getting a story. It’s about sensationalism. We’re grownups. We don’t look at that. You can never make me angry. Only I can make me angry and that’s the whole psychological process. People can’t make me angry. Only I can get me angry, so I don’t get angry from that. I understand how it works. I understand the agenda for most is, ‘We have to sell advertising and we have to have an audience and if we have to sensationalize to get an audience we will ’cause if we don’t, we don’t have a job.’”
When asked about how his relationship with his daughter is among rumors that they aren’t on good terms, the proud father points to the Lemonade visual for the answer.
“I think if one would look at the HBO special then you’d see what everybody else saw,” the Music World head honcho says. “They saw me talking to Beyonce when she was a young child and challenging her, even then, to understand where she was coming from and critical thinking, but you also seen me diving on the bed and playing with Blue Ivy, so that kinda answers your question right there.”

“Its about impact” wow what a load of bullshit kinda thought entertainment for the PEOPLE it should always be about the people and your fans not whatever you can do to attract the most attention or whatever we are back in highschool i guess so lets follow all the trends sell our souls for whatever sells and just go for it huh? Just goes to show what kind of piece of trash she is its about the money and industry not about the fans who make every single bit of it possible for them just funny how they treat people like pawns rather than fans people like this should be boycotted

So basically he’s angry because Piers Morgan is right. Beyonce is such a tool. Beyonce needs to be called out on her fakeness and using the tragic events of Trayvon and Mike Brown in order to sell more CD’s. Very fact is she has white women hair, doesnt like her black nose she had nose surgery (there is plenty of picture evidence). I think she’s like Bi-Polar or something. In interviews she talks like she’s a Virgin Diva but for her music videos and concerts she performs in thongs and bra only. What a sell-out and tool. So Daddy taught her how to dress like a skank
Before she even put out lemonade she was supporting the mothers of the black males who were wrongly killed so this isnt brand new. Beyonce has always kept kept herself politically correct. Its called working your way up so you can be in a position to speak and not worry about backlash because now her life is already set. Now she is in place where nothing can stop her so she shed doenst have to worry about watching what she releases because it wont hurt her career. Her Career is set. Yall are mad because the girl worked her her butt ofoff and did it smart. She is danged if she do and danged if she dont. If this was anyone else no one would be down their throat. But of course Beyonce gets the backlash because she she wasnt always loud and out about stuff inin the past. She always has moved in silent. Besides im sure the person you are now is is different from who were. Beyonce is human and she may have just grown more to see things she didnt see before or she is just decidinig to not care about what people say anymore. Either way it isnt fake its normal for anyone. Yall want her to be some sort of fake machine but she isnt.
I’m surprised DX posted this. He basically wrapped up Hip Hop DX’s (and other sites) business model
Broke ass uppity uncle Tom.
This shows that Beyonce comes from an amazing family! Not too many celebrity’s parents defend them like this. People attack anything that bring Black people’s issues up as race-baiting or exploitation. I’m so tired of it. From my understanding, she’s donating a TON of money made from this project to worthy causes (Flint’s water crisis, etc.). You all really need to kill the noise and respect that this Black woman is using her celebrity to create conversation on issues that many people don’t care to hear about because it is inconvenient, makes you feel guilty, and so on. These are real issues! Racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination are not figments of victims’ imaginations made up to annoy you. Why are you trying to silence people? Is the name calling necessary? How old are we?! Beyonce can say what she wants. I challenge you to join us in reality and join in an intelligent conversation about what’s really going on in this world. I know education is poor in this country, but at some point in adult life, making valid arguments instead of school yard attacks becomes personal responsibility… Learn to ask questions (without being sarcastic). Maybe you can be part of the solution…
Fuckoff Rasclot
First off Beyoncé ain’t hip hop. Next, you are a fool if you think twerking makes a female feminine. Next, the social issues going on today have been going on through out Beyonce’s nearly 20 year
career, and she hasn’t sang about it before. She is doing because it is in fashion to. Kendrick Lamar and other artists over the past few years have addressed these issues, they got great acclaim for it and Beyoncé jumps on their coat tails. Next, a great entertainer like MJ, bitch please. She falls all the time on stage because she can’t dance with heels. Her concert asthetics are completely ripped off of what Tina Turner did back in the 80’s. Next, all Beyoncé has sold her whole career to black women is materialism and leaving a man if he isn’t rich. Next, Beyoncé doesn’t write songs or music, and she has a very average voice, proven when she butchered Ella Fitzgerald songs on the movie Cadillac Records. Beyoncé is just a product sold to suburban females to justify there materialism and there inability to hold down a relationship with a good man. So really stop selling this bullshit that she is some meaningful artist. Beyonce’s music is what it is a product sold to feeble minded American females
And 30 years ago artists were writing and making their own music…..
Anyone on here ranting on here shows exactly what you are, if you black then you are an idiot but what would you expect when you do nothing but ‘turn up’ and ‘dumb out’; if you are white than your racism once closeted is basically laid out for all to see, plain and simple. Don’t care how much she has in her account and all that materialistic nonsense, the point is once a black person is so-called successful , the white establishment claims them as their own and once that person goes against the grain, it’s like ‘oh, they are black’ and here comes, the back lash. And before one of y’all pea-brained/emo/brainswashed @ssholes say something, do a little research which involves holding a ‘physical’ book.

Beyonce is trying to get paid and stay relevant. That’s why she latches on to political movements. That’s why she’s rehashing her relationship drama from 2 years ago. The best way for women in the music industry to stay relevant is through relationship drama. Beyonce knows that. So does Gwen Stefani, Nick Minaj, etc.
Journalism has become ridiculous. These days, everyone’s a “writer” and there’s a million different opinion pieces on every story.
I don’t blame Beyonce for being fake to get relevance, or journalists for being vultures to get clicks. I blame the dumb consumers for not realizing it’s all bullshit. Don’t get played.
