Ma$e has recounted a wild story about the time Big L set him up to get robbed.
The former Bad Boy rapper took time during Wednesday’s (June 26) episode of It Is What It Is to recount the time his fellow Harlem native escalated their beef to the point of attempted robbery.

“Me and L, we get into it,” Ma$e began. “He started using a few of my lyrics, like different compounds that I was using — that’s when you make two [syllables] [rhyme] at the same time. So I checked him […] and I’m like, ‘Yo, L!'”
He continued: “Me and L started talking and the conversation goes super left. Next thing I know, I’m in The Tunnel, and the n-gga Fat Joe comes up to me.

“Joe comes up to me and I’m looking like [pulls confused face]. And then Joe was like, ‘Man, I ain’t doing nothing to that n-gga! That’s Ma$e. That’s something y’all got going on.”
Ma$e then recalled walking through Harlem with childhood friend and former NBA star God Shammgod some time later — wearing his very first Rolex, no less — when they were suddenly accosted by an armed robber.

“A Spanish n-gga just ran out of nowhere like, ‘Yo, give it up, give it up! I’ma kill both of y’all n-ggas,'” he said. “He got the gun on [Shammgod]. We played basketball so we communicate with our eyes like, ‘N-gga, I’m about to run.’ […] Shamm got the look like, ‘Ma$e, stop playing.'”
After joking that he was unwilling to give up his “first Roley” even to save his friend, Ma$e said he eventually relented and threw the watch on the ground near the thief, allowing him and Shammgod to run away.

“When the dude gets locked up, n-ggas start calling me: ‘Yo, the n-gga in here that just took your watch.’ And n-ggas got crazy on the dude in jail. They beat the n-gga so bad he told us who did it,” the Harlem World MC said.
“He was like, ‘Yo, Big L did that.’ I was like, ‘Big L? Awwh. It’s over for this n-gga.'”

Fat Joe previously spoke about Ma$e and Big L’s feud and shared his side of the nightclub incident mentioned above.
“One time I got set up. Rest in peace Big L, [he] comes up to me in The Tunnel and he’s like ‘Yo, Crack, come bring your n-ggas, I got some beef,” he remembered on Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’ podcast.
“So we come — Big L’s our brother, you know, Diggin’ in the Crates — and when I come up, it’s fucking Ma$e. He’s arguing with Ma$e, they from the same block!”
“I’m like, ‘I was hanging out with Ma$e the night before at Puffy’s studio!’ Ma$e was looking at me like I was the greatest snake ever lived. He’s like, ‘For real?’

“I’m sitting there and, you know, L is my crew so L was like, ‘We will fuck you up right now, we don’t give a fuck, it’s whatever.”
According to the Terror Squad leader, Big L turned to him and asked, “Right, Joe?” to which he awkwardly nodded his head.
“I don’t think Ma$e ever trusted me again in my life after that,” he concluded. “That shit was foul, man.”
