Lloyd Banks Says He Could Drop An Album Every Year For Next 5 Years

Lloyd Banks has made it clear in a new interview with HipHopDX that he’s planning on keeping his comeback run going.

The Queens rapper, who dropped the sequel to his Course of the Inevitable album in July, talked to DX about how he’s able to still rap at an elite level despite taking time off, while stating that he could also drop a heater every summer if need be.

“Now, I feel like I’m fully capable of dropping an album for the next five years; at least once a year, if not twice,” Banks said. “I just feel like I’m chasing the ultimate album, you know what I mean? So it’s like, I can’t possibly be finished. I also lost more than a few years from just taking hiatuses in the business.

“In a lot of spots, I’ve might have been expected to have momentum, but I wasn’t in a situation at the time to just drop album after album.”

Banks has endured several personal hardships in recent years. He lost his father, grandmother and best friend during his lengthy hiatus but over the course of time, crafted enough material to where he has five albums in the tuck, ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Having time away allowed him to re-chart a course for his career, eliminate criticisms and sharpen his pen even more.

“We in the day and age where you’re trying to find the three or four songs you like on the album, opposed to back in the day [when] we used to look for the two or three songs that we weren’t that fond of,” he said. “I’m not really driven to just make the one hot record. Those always help but at this point, I’m just in the mode of making full bodies of work. Creativity, conceptually, the whole thing.”

Course of the Inevitable 2 arrived a year after the original album and sports guest features from the likes of Conway The Machine, Benny the Butcher, Jadakiss, Dave East and his former G-Unit brother Tony Yayo.

Meanwhile, 50 Cent has said he’s done “carrying” G-Unit and that it’s unlikely the Queens group will ever make another record together.

During an interview with The Breakfast Club on Friday (August 12), Fif was asked whether he would ever reunite with Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo for another project or work on a G-Unit documentary.

“I probably won’t do a project with them,” 50 answered. “I’m done with carrying them around. My back hurt.”

    1. Meh, no one really believes in Banks blowing our minds in the future. He is really good but as far as bangers, hits, surprises…nope

      1. You’re tripping if you dont think COTI2 had bangers. As far as commercial hits, I dont think Banks sought mainstream success with COTI1 or 2. These albums were clearly for hip hop heads and the fan base he’s cultivated over 20 years. Banks’ last attempt at mainstream success was HFM2, which had a gold plaque with Beamer Benz or Bentley, working on several tracks with Kanye, etc. I’m sure it Banks wants to go on that path again in the coming years, he is more then capable.

      2. I don’t understand why people are so concerned with “hits” like it makes or breaks a high quality rapper like banks. Fuck a hit. Can’t remember the last hit I even liked anyways.

      3. Only a chump things commercial hits=quality. Charts is for industry plants making music for teenage white girls lol, I couldn’t even tell you 5 artists in the top 20

    2. Coti 1 was classic, 2 was good but not like 1. Banks is having a solid run atm.. he needs to put himself out more in public and music vids

      1. I’m a big Banks fan and liked COTI 2 a lot more than COTI 1. Most of the songs on 2 slapped even if you didn’t listen to the lyrics. it’s a hallmark of great music when it’s fun to listen to the melody and the hook without focusing on the lyrics, but Banks’ wordplay gives those songs longevity and greatness. 1 was more of an acquired taste to me. Sidewalks was my fav track on COTI1, there’s too many tracks I love on COTI2 for me to pick.

    3. COTI2 was good but what messed it up for me was some of the features. He could’ve delivered without them in my opinion.. I get that Griselda is on fire right now but why do these guys have to appear on every album? COTI 1 had Ransom, Roc Marci, Styles P etc. people who are way better than Benny the butcher

    4. Banks in my books will forever be worthy of hall of fame. His style never misses a beat. He inspired me numerous times and I look forward to hearing more from him. Bless

    5. Big Banks fan, really wish he had this attitude in his prime. Always had the swag and the talent, just not the desire to make music too often.
