LL Cool J Reportedly Suing Rock The Bells Festival Promoters

LL Cool J is reportedly suing concert promoter Guerilla Union, Inc. over their Rock The Bells festival name. According to The Blast, the Hip Hop heavyweight is accusing the company of stealing the name from his 1985 song “Rock The Bells” and wants a judge to bar Guerilla Union from ever using it again.

Court documents say the concert promoter and founder Chang Weisberg filed for a “Rock the Bells” trademark in 2004. Earlier this year, LL launched a SiriusXM channel of the same name.

The seasoned MC/actor alleges the company filed for the trademark without his permission to use for the Rock The Bells festival. Subsequently, he asked the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board to cancel all of Guerilla Union’s trademarks.

Although his request was granted, LL says the company continues to try to capitalize off the name.

LL wants a judge to grant an injunction prohibiting the promoter from using it. He’s also asking for unspecified damages.

The Rock The Bells festival was founded in 2004 and ran for nine years. Busta Rhymes, GZA, KRS-One and Tech N9ne were among the many artists to grace the festival stage.

    2. I remember Rock the Bells concert being hype on this website, I also wonder if that was still going since I haven’t heard it in a while.

    3. What?! LL didn’t have a problem 20 years ago when these Indie Spirited good folks started, even though he didn’t invent the phrase or own the words and if ANYTHING it paid homage to classic early Hip Hop spirit! PLUS they lost their shirt and went out of business like 7-8 years ago, and LL is Super RICH from playin’ COPS on TV and his LipSynch show franchise…. doesn’t make sense! LLC Chill… that Festival is not comin’ back, don’t try to get blood outta a stone – NOT COOL!

    4. I love how some of you clearly have zero knowledge of copyright law yet are commenting anyway. The basic gist is that you have to protect your copyright because if you don’t then you lose it. Know what the fuck you’re talking about before spouting nonsense.

    5. LL wack for this. How you going to sue after the prime years of RTB. No wonder, he was never headlining or ever included.

      1. Money never gets old bro- If it’s owed then pay up. I don’t care how long ago I’ve done something, if you have infringed on my legal rights then I want my money.

    6. LL, keep ya guards up. Too many hatters in this world. Soon as a black man take a stand on what he really own his own people knock him… Sad… Real sad… Thats why most people depressed on the internet all day trying to hate on the ones thats focus on real life values… Get ya bread Mr.Cool J
