Lizzo Barks Back At Dr. Boyce Watkins’ Obesity Attack

Lizzo decided to let Dr. Boyce Watkins have it after he commented on her body positivity message via Twitter. Earlier this month, the academic and media commentator sent out a tweet assessing why Lizzo was popular.

“Lizzo is popular is because there is an obesity epidemic in America,” he wrote. “Rather than encouraging people to do better, we are simply lying to them and telling them that they are just fine the way they are. Unfortunately, many of these people are dying from diabetes and heart disease.”

On Monday (December 23), the pop superstar got wind of Dr. Watkins’ tweet and responded on Twitter.

“I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love,” she wrote. “The only person who needs to do better is you. Keep my name out ya mouth & look in the mirror before you come for me. Here’s the attention you ordered”

Dr. Watkins replied to the body positive activist with a video via Twitter on Tuesday (December 24), throwing singer-songwriter India Arie into the mix. In the clip, he compares the two singers and asks viewers which woman they’d rather have their daughters “grow up to become.”

Lizzo has yet to respond to his latest post.

Despite Dr. Watkins’ comments, the entertainer has been riding high off her Saturday Night Live debut. The episode, featuring the return of SNL alum Eddie Murphy after 35 years, became the highest-rated episode for the late night sketch show since 2017.

    1. I haven’t heard her music, so I can’t say whether she’s talented or not, but he’s right that we shouldn’t be promoting obesity, and should be encouraging people to be better. I hate when I see people post the whole “women prefer dad bods” thing for the same reason (and because it’s not true)

    2. Bark is an appropriate word. She is like a dog that hasn’t been walked in years. Truly an ugly person on the inside. And the way she dresses i refuse to even look at her on the outside so i cant even tell ya.

    3. Doc has a legit good point tho. She’s setting a bad example for future generations of women who need to be healthy, active and positive minded academically focused individuals not attention hungry twitter ranting thirsty drama queens who crave only money and fame and have no sense of morality or decency.

    4. Lizzo is the new slang word for tubby ghetto hounds.

An example: That girl had her fupa hanging over her waistline lookin very Lizzo

      Spread the word.

    5. Why is it so hard to just focus on the fact that shes a trashy thot? She does plenty of shit that she needs to be criticized for, bringing up her weight just gives ammo to the wannabe thots who worship her. Anyone acting like her behavior is something theyd want their daughter to engage in is either knowingly full of shit or a thot themselves, its that simple.

    6. Boyce Watkins has no way knowing anything about the health of Lizzo, so he’s being less than honest his reason for commenting about her weight. Being large doesn’t necessarily mean you’re prone to diabetes or high blood pressure and being thinner doesn’t mean you aren’t. Heredity plays a part in whether or not people suffer from those health issues. Dr Watkins’ subsequent tweet, dragging IndiaArie in on his foolishness, comparing Lizzo to IndiaArie, and asking which one would you want your daughter to emulate, indicates that this isn’t about health it’s about his disapproval of Lizzo.

      1. Pamela Evans being overweight certainly makes you much more prone to heart disease and diabetes and for you to deny that is beyond stupid. It is not the only determining factor but plays a major part in the risk. If you think it is ok to glorify obesity and walk around at 400 pound wearing minimal clothing then that’s on you. She’s disgusting and trashy with the way she carries herself. She has a good voice and makes good music but stop with the sexualisation, especially if you’re a fat pig.

      2. Being large absolutely DOES make you prone to High Blood Pressure, heart disease etc etc. What you mean to say is being prone to something doesn’t necessarily mean you will ever get it. Lots of overweight people are healthy up to a certain point. But we can still support body positivity and also be factual about obesity.

      3. Shes morbidly obese. It’s not up for discussion. High blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease dont care about being politically correct. Everyone her size, at a certain age, will fall victim to one of, if not all those diseases. So as a practicing physician yes he does know about her health.

      4. Your comment say it all. No common sense. Keep promoting an unhealthy lifestyle to the kids. Because you like her music. Even if she doesn’t have or get diabetes. Carrying all that weight is dangerous in others ways. I’m sure you ok with her acting like trash in front of kids too. Like showing her ass anytime she can. Get some standards.

      5. Stop making excuses for this women. You sound just like her, defensive and childish af. Suppose you think you’re “100% that bitch” too huh? Got news for you sweaty, you ain’t. Just another fat bitch with an attitude problem. Grow up.

    7. Dr Watkins is exactly right. But that’s the kind of time were in. Lizzo promotes obesity, Kim Kardashian promotes promiscuity and plastic surgery, JayZ promotes materialism and selfishness and Kanye promotes exploitation and narcissism.

    8. This “lady” uses her fatness to try to hide behind and deflect from the fact that she’s a rotten human being and a horrible role model.

            1. You are acting like your angry crazy momma. You need to forgive your father, he wasnt leaving you he was leaving her. Instead you walk around with this anguish and lash out at people who you feel inferior to because you also have your mommas insecurity. Thats why she is such a rotten person, she is insecure about herself and so are you ABF lol.

    9. Dr. Boykins is right, I don’t know why we have to pretend being morbidly obese is just fine for the sake of pretending to be woke.

Also, lizzo is popular bc a bunch of mindless idiots think they are also “100% that bitch”. It sure as hell not bc of her trash songs.

    10. put this in your pipe and smoke it…the media crucified Serena for her body type and hated her for her catsuits while beating people in tennis. Now Lizzo is being praised for being okay with being fat and acting like a fool instead of strictly being artistic.

      1. Veezy, people criticize Sir-Ena because they’re not convinced she’s a she. Penis Williams is also suspect. The way Sir-Ena grunts like a gorilla doesn’t help either, she just gives them more jokes to work with. So if they’re both dudes playing a woman’s tennis league, that would be a scandal in a normal world. That’s why they’re critical of the Williams.

        1. Fam all those stars grunt when they play tennis male and female. They don’t think she’s a man, they think she’s cheating, instead of busting her ass for what she’s accomplished

    11. Big Food and Big Pharma are sponsoring Lizzo, i suspect. They feed you poison because you are a slave for that dopamine rush you get from junkfood, then sell you “medicine” that only makes you more sick and you need more “medicine” for the side fx caused by said “medicine”. They don’t want you dead, they don’t want you healthy. They want you just sick enough to live, so they can capitalize of your suffering.

    12. Lizzie is very insecure..it’s that simple. She hides behind all the crap that she does. Twerking at a NBA game in from of kids was not a good thing. But it’s all a smoke screen.

    13. Body positivity isn’t supposed to mean “It’s ok to be Massively over weight.” Body positivity is for people who are healthy who may be a little over weight may have asymmetrical features may have some form of disfigurement. It’s not supposed to apply to fat whales who want to justify eating 2 pizzas a day.

    14. Same world that tells us to love oirselfs be the same world tryna bring us down. Lizzo puts on not jus for bbws but for females everywhere. Stop hating and continue to let her be great

      1. No. She represents irresponsibility and indecency. If she were being ridiculed for something she cant control that’s one thing, but shes flaunting her unhealthy lifestyle. This whole pc crap that all bad behavior should be celebrated is killing our culture. Being morbidly obese should be a cause for alarm, not celebration!

    15. He did not need to say that. Black people criticize each other more than any other race. I thought it was very inappropriate for her to twerk at the lakers game, but he’s comments were unnecessary.

      1. His comments were 100 percent on point and for her own good. If the world wont tell her the truth im glad some has the balls in this fake world 2 tell her she needs 2 get healthy

        1. Thank you. This isn’t about her being qualified as an entertainer or a role model. This is about being ridiculously overweight and unhealthy. This isn’t about criticism or uplifting or race. This is about being honest healthy.

      2. Old Head…why it gotta be about race tho, the human body is the human body, white black green or whatever pigment. How is giving health advice not uplifting? Is it bad for a black person to call out a black crackhead just cuz they’re the same color? I think this uplifting you speak of is actually enabling…and maybe that’s more of “the problem” than you think

    16. Being comfortable in your skin is good and important. Being obese however is unhealthy and dangerous. Obese people shouldn’t be shamed into losing weight, but they shouldn’t be celebrated for being brave to go out in public half (or fully) naked. Be proud of who you are, but also, try to take care of yourself. And all the extra BS lizzo does makes it seem like she isnt actually comfortable with herself, she is looking for validation from everyone else to justify not making proper changes. There are problems, “on both sides”, to quote the great Donald Trump lol

    17. Lizzo is a very talented artist, she can sing her ass off, there is no denying that. Anyone who says otherwise is a hater. I personally think it’s great that she is a “big woman” doing her thing and is proud of how she looks, and doesn’t give a shit. Obviously any doctor would tell her that she needs to lose weight to be healthy. Period. I don’t see what the issue is here. As far as if she is a good role model etc, please. If your kids are looking up to musicians actors and athletes for right and wrong, that’s where the fuckery began. Hip-hop, R&B, Rock, Hollywood, the NBA,NFL and MLB are seriously heavy on weirdo maniacs and light on people of substance. Have a kid and be in it’s life. That’s all the role modeling needed.

    18. Lizzo is a entertainer! Let her entertain. It is not her responsibility to set an example for our daughters and these days our sons. She’s not Senator/Congresswoman Lizzo! Stop pressing Lizzo, Kim, and Bey to set an example! Be responsible for your seed and set the example yourself!! #afather…

      1. Ok but she’s still deathly fat as shit. It’s not just about setting an example. She’s not going to let herself entertain if she dies from a heart attack. I’m all for being responsible for your own kids, and body positivity.. but there is a line between being positive and being ignorant.

      2. You’re right…but don’t act like they’re not influenced by entertainers, even if they have active parents in their life. Not acknowledging that would make you a shitty parent as well. I grew up a fat fuck, and I’ll tell you what…if I had the excuses to be fat like kids today do, I’d prob have diabetes right now. People totally disregard the health aspect of this argument and just see people being “mean”…it’s a very dangerous mentality to have tbh

    19. I be every time she sits on the toilet..a preacher has to do a eulogy for it afterwards…..(that poor poor thing, smh)

    20. Cant wait to realize that shes just a prop millenials are using to feel better about themselves. Shes going to eat her way into an even earlier grave.

      1. India Arie has certainly earned more than Lizzo in her career. She sold albums — Lizzo is getting streams. If she is able to stay in the game for 10+ years maybe she will start catching up.

    21. I choose my daughter too be herself period this black on black shit gotta stop y’all grown ass people need to be living ya best life stop hating

    22. All of you guys are trolls, when has she not acknowledge that she is a big girl and has struggled with her weight, I mean everybodys mother in this comment section probably looks like lizzo are you gonna disown your own mama.
Stop hating on lizzo and maybe try to be like her get some money, It might help you not worry how someone looks.

      1. Who said disown stupid? Yes there is a whole lot of fat moms out their. I don’t want to see their fat asses walking down the street in a thong either. Put that mess in a turtleneck and sweat pants.
