Lil Wayne Talks Birdman Rift, “The Free Weezy” Album & Retirement

Lil Wayne has broken his silence regarding his Cash Money Records status.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Weezy jokes about the Tweets he shared last December that exposed his troubles with his father figure, Birdman, and his “prisoner” status on the label he has belonged to since age 12.

Wayne told the publication that he and Birdman are currently not speaking to one another. He says that he has “no words” for Baby and truthfully, he’s “super-numb” to the situation.

Rolling Stone was able to reach the rapper by phone last week. Although he wasn’t open to talk about the pending lawsuit, he did discuss the status of Tha Carter V, his forthcoming Free Weezy album and the possibility of retiring in the near future.

According to WayneTha Carter V, is “super-done.”

“Cake baked, icing on top, name on top, candles lit,” he says. “I would have released it yesterday if I could. But it’s a dead subject right now. It’s a jewel in the safe. It’s that stash-house money.”

As for The Free Weezy Album, which is slated to be released in March, Wayne says he is “working on it every day.”

“I guarantee it’s going to be something dope,” he says. “If you don’t want a musician being creative, don’t get The Free Weezy Album.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Wayne mentions that he listens to newer artists like Rae Sremmurd and Migos. He also admit to considering retirement.

“I’ve thought about it,” he says. “But for a person like me that bleeds, eats, sleeps and shits music, it’s hard to do.”

    1. “Wayne mentions that he listens to newer artists like Rae Sremmurd and Migos.”, I swear it was Wayne who used to say he only listened to himself and no other artists when asked who he listens to.

      1. Rappers are the most inconsistent people i have ever known, today they’ll say fuck this nigga and the next day they say i love this nigga

    2. Eventually Baby will lose out, because Wayne (like Drake) is connected to J Prince. Wayne WILL get paid and be able to leave, it’s just a matter of how much and how long.

      1. No, Wayne realized that Birdman was screwing him over and he wants out of Cash Money. On par? Wayne’s last four albums are trash, I doubt Birdman cares about quality.

      1. There’s only one way to know if cash money would fall without wayne and that’s ‘time’ lets wait and see, but in my opinion birdman is a good business man cash money will survive very well

    3. For what? Wanting out of a shitty situation?

You mean the situation where wayne fucked himself over by biting the hand that fed him?

      1. Birdman didn’t start shit. Without Birdman, wayne would be a broke ass hoodlum or even dead and wouldn’t be anywhere near successful.

      2. Yes, Birdman did start shit. Without Wayne, there would be no Cash Money Records as it is and Birdman would stay broke.

      1. And who is dre whats he being doing musically since last 10 years, man is tired of making music his creativity is finished , don’t hope that dr. dre will be doing anything big musically again ever he’s done
