Bay Area artist Lil Debbie recently discussed the impact White Girl Mob on the music industry. In an exclusive conversation with HipHopDX, the California Sweetheart creator says that White Girl Mob (a collective consisting of White female rappers Kreayshawn, V-Nasty and Lil Debbie) were “pioneers.”
“I would definitely say the White Girl Mob, we were pioneers,” Lil Debbie says. She continues:
“I think it’s sad today to where we’ve all ended up with each other but I would definitely say Kreayshawn changed the game. I heard ‘Gucci Gucci’ before she put it out. I looked at her and I was like, ‘Bitch, what the fuck! You are about to change the fucking game.’ Not only was she about to sign a deal—which was like, ‘Ooooh for us.’ Now, I’m like, ‘Deal. Ah. Sticky situation. That’s a lot of money. I don’t know if I want to pay it back.’ I was excited for her. Did I know everything else was gonna happen afterwards? No. Of course not. I would like to think that me and V-Nasty had a part to do with being pioneers and changing [things]. To a certain extent, I did with style. And I feel like later on, me rapping with RiFF RAFF opened up a new book. But Kreayshawn definitely kind of opened up people’s minds to maybe letting more White females into the industry.”
Kreayshawn officially signed to Sony music in June, 2011 off of the Youtube success of her single, “Gucci Gucci.” Her debut album, Something ‘Bout Kreay was released on September 23, 2011 and sold 3,900 copies in its first week. Recently, Iggy Azalea’s The New Classic, debuted at #3 on Soundscan, selling 52,000 units in its first week and 163,000 copies to date.
Lil Debbie also explained how RiFF RAFF was instrumental in igniting her rap career.
“I’m changing it up every second,” she says. “I still can’t even tell you, ‘This is who I am and this is my lane,’ because I’m not sure of that. A year ago I was like, ‘Nope. I’m not gonna be a fucking rapper’ There’s interviews where I’m totally against it. Then of course, RiFF RAFF calls me up and I was so down that I was like, ‘OK, I’ll come do a verse.’”
