Lil B Inspires Fans To Share Unpopular Hip Hop Opinions On Twitter

Often, die-hard and outspoken fans in the Hip Hop world can discourage others from sharing their true views online. If you’re skeptical about that, go tweet your Top 5 and see how quickly it takes for someone you don’t know to tell you you’re an idiot.

Unfortunately, a lot of strong (and often collective) opinions in the game can keep people away from having some truly engaging conversations. For this reason, Lil B attempted to psych up his audience by offering up a “sorry not sorry” style tweet to launch what he called #hiphophonesty.

According to Lil B, the 1994 song “Thuggish Ruggish Bone,” which was the debut commercial single from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, was only a classic because of the chorus, which was sung by Shatasha Williams.

It’s easy to argue that Bone’s unique — and now iconic — style helped propel the single, which was certified platinum less than a year after its release. This was also demonstrated by the immense success of the EP that followed, Creepin on Ah Come Up, and the remainder of Bone’s releases throughout the ’90s.

There were few direct responses to his comment, as a large portion of his fanbase may have missed out on the pre-E. 1999 Eternal Bone Thugs era. However, fans of the fast-rapping quintet felt the need to defend the song.

Lil B, who recently borrowed the instrumental from Bone’s massive hit “Crossroads” for “My House” on Black Ken, is known to threaten curses on those who appear to be shading anyone considered a legend in the game. He quickly issued a retraction.

While his “truth” was light-hearted, it did inspire others on his timeline to share their #hiphophonesty, apparently viewing Based God’s timeline as a safe space.

While it has yet to reach viral status, Lil B seems to be keeping the movement going.

    1. He knows what to say to catch people attention he says something that damn there nobody agrees with, to get everybody talking about him, He knows how Real heads will react when bringing up certain names in negative light, Bone Thugs is one of those names along with Jay, Pac, Big, Pun, Wu, Nas.

    2. so tell me why foe tha luv of money, dayz of our livez, both crossroads, thug luv, fried day, buddah lovvaz, first of month classic

    3. I’m gonna keep it honest. I can’t name one lil b song.

Disrespecting Bone Thugs, one of if not the best rap groups of all time… FOH. Everyone loved bone when that e. 1999 album dropped. Cheerleaders, thugs, whites, blacks, it didn’t matter, they got mad love and it is well deserved. Their music is timeless and need to be in the hiphop hall of fame.

          1. nahh bruh, they def did a lot more harmonizing after the goodlife, check the documentary among other sources…Ice Cube bit too

            1. Need to go listen to sin of graveyard shift old mo thug group interview, he wasn’t on the best terms with Bone at time of interview, he said Krayzie had that style down at the age of 15-16 years old. also mention that he felt krayzie bone was advance, he wrote stuff in 91-92 that was put one East 99 and art of war, tracks that people loved.

            2. Get over Bone blew up became one of the best rap groups ever, Freestyle Fellowship didn’t blow stop trying find ways to give credit to them for Bone success.

    4. I love how all y’all fools get mad because of a opinion. And his opinion isn’t even negative of the song just that the chorus and beat were good hooks to get people to listen to Bone. Stop looking for reasons to get mad and just respect someone else’s opinion as just an opinion.

    5. The whole song a classic, not only the hook, but the verses, beat and the intro. WERE NOT ANGAINST RAP, BUT WE ARE ANGAINST THOSE THUGS

    6. As good as thuggush ruggish was it was even close to the best song on the Ep, Creeping on that come up was a classic! They had major success honestly un match by any other group in Rap, they drop they’re debut in 94 by 98 had 8 platinum albums including solo, group albums. That will never happen again not even drake can pull that off. Same as Master P making all that money that happen from like 96-99, we will never see a stretch like that by a rapper. The rappers in the 90’s came in put in work and are still making money of stuff they did 20 years ago.

    7. She did her thing on that hook and beat is also dope, but I mean come on dude did you listen to bizzy and krayzie verses they went off. I think different parts of the songs catching different people attention, I guess for like simple rap fans that like catchy stuff the hook does catch you, if you like production and beats the beat catching you, but if you like flows and lyrics then they catch you with that too.

    8. Tasha would have had a decent solo career if Eazy didn’t die, she had a great voice. Eazy sign her to a deal . Her lead single was scheduled to drop March of 95, But Eazy got sick and died in March 95. Tomica took over and drop her from the label for no reason, Krayzie and bizzy wanted to use her again but Tomica blocked it. Tomica had no clue what she was doing she butchered Ruthless, when she could have easily made like 100 million in like 3-4 years, Greed and Power got to her, She didn’t do right by Bone and they left after the contract was up they went to Interscope drop platinum single I tried , Platinum album, and Tomica faded into non existence along with Ruthless.

    9. hip hop honesty – kanye west is both the greatest rapper and greatest producer of all time. no one has taken more from the previous era and influenced the new era more than yeezus. Producer wise – I’d rather here Common and Kweli rap over Ye beats than Cube and Em rap over Dre beats. Rapper wise, Kanye features are more interesting than Jay or Nas. Kanye is the ultimate bridge to the hiphop we have now. hiphophonesty

    10. hip hop honesty… i still think BG is the best rapper from the Hot Boyz. hip hop honesty… I think Juve would have been a bigger star than Wayne but Birdman wanted to push Wayne because he wanted that backend…. hip hop honesty… Mannie Fresh beats were good from 1997-2002, after that all garbage…. hip hop honesty, Birdman should be in jail for raping little boys and grown men – seriously… this was hip hop honesty cash money style

      1. He was always bigger than Wayne he put them on the Map WaYne only got big cause they all defected …I gotta ask are any of you over 33? No disrespect but y’all history be distorted af

        1. Not really I’m from Louisiana Wayne was really always gonna be the star even back in 96-97 before they blew up, everybody loved wayne the most and was waiting on his solo. Juvie and B.G def did the heavy lifting though but it was like one of the situation when you got a starting QB in Football and you draft another one to eventually be the Franchise. Wayne was always the favorite to Baby and slim who ran Cash money.

    11. Hip Hop Honesty…. I’d rather listen to The Game & Kendrick rap over Dr. Dre beats than listening to Em and 50 on them.

      1. When has Kendrick rapped on a Dre beat??? And don’t tell me that scoop Deville beat either from the Compton soundtrack

    12. As DX deleted my comment for this article 2 times in a row I consider you don’t like honesty.

    13. I get what Lil b is doing by why not say something positive about the legends, instead of something that borders on the line of negative criticism, why not say what’s your favorite Bone album or song. Hip Hop is the only genre of music that does not
Honor and show utmost respect to Legends/Icons. Gotta show more respect to the guys that Kick the door in for the Midwest, and the group that is in the argument for top rap crew of all time.

    14. All the people that are tweeting this hip hop honesty are going to be fans of the new shit rap nowadays as none of the true heads will be following lil b on twitter to begin with, Kanye better than jay z big n 2pac cmon
