Kendrick Lamar Dominates 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards With Record-Breaking Wins

Kendrick Lamar has continued to stamp his authority on the rap game by dominating the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards, taking home a record number of trophies.

From 11 nominations, Kendrick emerged victorious in eight categories, the most that have been won on a single night in the awards’ history.

Three of the Compton rap star’s wins were thanks to his chart-topping Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” which was crowned Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video and Impact Track.

Kendrick’s “Like That” song with Future and Metro Boomin, which ignited his high-profile beef with Drizzy, won Best Collaboration, while his blistering cameo on the number one hit also took home the award for Best Featured Verse.

The pgLang founder was additionally named Hip Hop Artist of the Year, beating out the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj and Future; Lyricist of the Year; and Video Director of the Year alongside fellow “little homie” Dave Free.

One award that Lamar could not pick up was Album of the Year, which went to Nicki Minaj for her latest project Pink Friday 2.

The Young Money MC, who is the first female rapper to win the award, celebrated by posting a clip from the film Child’s Play on social media.

50 Cent was also a winner on the night in the Hustler of the Year category.

He reacted on Instagram by writing: “First and foremost I’d like to thank God, for making me struggle it’s making me great now. Big [cash emoji] let’s get it.”

Other notable winners at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards included Future and Metro Boomin (Best Duo or Group), Sexyy Red (Best Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist), The Alchemist (Producer of the Year, DJ of the Year) and Missy Elliott (Best Live Performer).

Megan Thee Stallion walked away empty-handed, despite entering the night with 12 nominations, more than any other artist.

Travis Scott also won the I Am Hip Hop award and was on hand to accept it in person.

“I come from this generation where they considered us nowhere near Hip Hop, quote-unquote. Every day I try to push the sound, and coming in as a producer, nobody knew what the fuck I was trying to do,” he said.

“But I always had this idea and vision, still to this day, to take the sound and take things to the next level. I’m just so glad that we made it this far.”

The 2024 BET Hip Hop awards were hosted by Fat Joe and held at Drai’s Beach Club in Las Vegas, where he also performed his classic hit “Make it Rain.”

Other performances throughout the night came from GloRilla, 2 Chainz and Juicy J, Trina and Yung Miami, E-40, and Soulja Boy and Roscoe Dash.

    1. I like Kendrick, but im not gonna sugarcoat it, his come up was fueled by Drake hate. And rightfully so because Drake sucks balls. Kendrick was the industry’s way to kill off Drake. The real question is will Kendrick end up becoming exactly who he destroyed ? I cant name a Kendrick song that isnt a Drake diss, thats a problem. 2 Pac wouldnt be 2 Pac if his only hit was Hit em Up. And im curious how Kendrick is going to perform his biggest song at the superbowl without referencing A-minor or certified pedophile. The song has no real hook. Whats he gonna do ? The superbowl is G rated ever since Janet Jackson.
