Kanye West Wanted To Make 52 Records In 52 Weeks

An interview with Kanye West is hard to come by these days, and as evidenced by his recent conversations with TMZ and Charlamagne Tha God, you never know what he’ll say when you do secure one.

In a new podcast episode, New York Times journalist Jon Caramanica revealed that Kanye told him that he might keep the music streak going by creating 52 records in 52 weeks.

After Caramanica spent a few days with Kanye in Wyoming, post-ye listening event, he published a New York Times profile that touched on many topics, from drug abuse to creating the albums for the G.O.O.D. Music schedule in June. He then recorded an episode of his Popcast podcast with New York Times’ Joe Coscarelli and Reggie Ugwu, and the Ringer‘s Justin Charity to answer questions other readers had regarding his time with Kanye.

One reader emailed, “What was his mood and what was engaging with him like?” To that, Caramanica answered, “He said he wants to get a place in Wyoming. He wants to spend more time there. He told me at one point he wants to make 52 records in 52 weeks. Take that for what you will. But I think he was sensing … there was a little bit of a nostalgia thing happening. A zen for having put out this body of work after sort of building up to it … after a traumatic year and a half.”

The rest of the episode addresses fans’ questions about Kanye’s political views, circumstances that Kanye makes music under, and if ye is underrated.

Other artists including Bump J and Ty Dolla $ign have talked about the possibility of putting out seven-track projects with Kanye previously and there is speculation about similar projects with Valee and Chance The Rapper.

Listen to the full podcast episode above. The comment on Kanye creating 52 albums in 52 weeks comes at the 48:45 mark.

No other update has been made about the 52 albums since Kanye made that statement to Caramanica weeks ago. After a five-week stretch of projects, Kanye doesn’t currently have any other releases announced.

    1. “The KandyPens and liquor are flowing…” -DX staff
Really guys? KandyPens were flowing? KandyPens must not be paying you guys that much if you’re throwing that out there.

    2. I’m a big nas fan and was a fan of Kanye apart from yeezus,808 and heat breaks. Tlop and this new shit sucks. Good beats on pusha album but I’m sorry that nas shit has no replay appeal and that new Kanye shit is wack. Last good Kanye song was real friends and that was produced by Havoc.

    3. Kanye is doing the best he can. He’s clearlt not happy. How could he be with his marriage to a morally compromised woman, trash music and his rampant narcissism. His work is his therapy.

    4. Kanye did an excellent job and all of the 5 albums have their place in a subset. I personally rank them Nasir > Daytona > KSG > KTSE > Ye

    5. production on point. lyrics trash. personality trash. No time for the new OJ, and all the ppl in his corner.

      1. Whats wrong with his personality? Seems like hes trying to promote more peace, having differences in opinions, and not getting all out of wack.

    6. Who in the fuk records 1 song a Week lol a broke middle school kid . 2nd 7 songs that’s a EP Loooooollllll The labels aren’t funding full albums huh ??

    7. This is as laughable as J. Prince telling everyone that he didn’t want Drake to release the Pusha T track that would end everything and everyone, past, present and future. FOH

    8. PUSHA T IS THE ONLY ARTIST TO UTILIZE THE 7 SONG FORMAT. YE MADE THE WOAT NAS ALBUM. HE DOESNT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH TEYANA. I HATE CUDI BUT IM HONEST ENOUGH TO SAY HE WAS TALENTED ENOUGH TO DROP A DECENT RECORD. THE KANYE SOLO ALBUM WAS ASS THO, SUCH A FORGIVING FANBASE FOH.

      1. And album is dope. Nas worst album was Nas & Ill Will Records Presents QB’s Finest. YOU obviously don’t know wtf you’re talking about. Sit down bitch.
